Gunfight between the suspect and the cop:

A scuffle erupted when one cop caught up with the suspect. Both men fired their firearms. Officer Jerving was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital immediately.

The injured cop, 37-year-old Peter Jerving, passed away at a hospital. According to the chief, Jerving has four years of service with the Milwaukee Police Department.

The department presented Jerving, who was assigned to Police District 4, with a lifesaving award in November.

At a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, the department’s chaplain, George Papachristou, presented a statement from Jerving’s family.
