An Israeli director, Nadav Lapid, , has come under criticism for labelling “Kashmir Files” a “vulgar propaganda film.” Let’s see Why Israel filmmaker Nadav Lapid calls Kashmir Files a valgur movie in detail.
IFFI jury chief Nadal Lapid’s “vulgar propaganda” dismissal of Kashmir Files does 2 things. One, he busts a popular myth in India that all Israelis (Jews) detest Muslims. Two, it shows how disrespectful this view is of Israel’s democracy, as argumentative as India’s if not more

What happened?
The Kashmir Files was called “vulgar and propaganda” by Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid, who served on the jury for the 2022 International Film Festival of India.
During the Goa film festival’s closing ceremony, he made the statement.
“The jury was disturbed and shocked by the 15th film, ‘The Kashmir Files’, that felt to us like a propaganda, vulgar movie inappropriate for an artistic competitive section of such a prestigious film festival.”
Sudipto Sen, a member of the jury, has since distanced himself from Nadav’s remarks, while The Kashmir Files’ cast and crew have criticized the Israeli director for expressing them.
On the internet, the video of his speech has become very popular. Here is a quick summary of the Israeli director who sparked this debate.

The Kashmir Files
The Kashmir Files, which released in theatres on March 11, was exhibited on November 22 as a part of the IFFI’s Indian Panorama Section.
The movie, which was written, directed, and made by Zee Studios, recounts the evacuation of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir when militants with support from Pakistan killed members of the community.
Along with Pallavi Joshi and Mithun Chakraborty, it also features Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumaar, and others.
Who is Nadav Lapid?
Nadav Lapid, an Israeli citizen born in Tel Aviv in 1975, studied literature in Paris and philosophy at Tel Aviv University.
“Continua Bailando,” a novel by Nadav, was released in 2001. He also served as the cameraman on various Israeli documentaries.
For his first feature picture, Policeman, he won a Special Jury Prize at the 2011 Locarno International Film Festival.
He won the Golden Bear for Synonyms in 2019 at the Berlin Film Festival.
The Kindergarten Teacher, another movie by Nadav, made its international debut in the Critics
Week section of the Cannes Feature Festival in 2014.
He participated on the jury for Cannes Film Festival’s Critics Week in 2016.
He submitted his movie Ahed’s Knee to Cannes in 2021 for the competition.
He is currently engaged in a new endeavor.
According to reports, the movie centers on Ahed Tamini, a Palestinian adolescent who slapped an Israeli soldier and received a prison sentence in 2017.
Lapid was invited to serve on the jury for International Critics’ Week in 2016.
People reacts to the controversy
The Kashmir Files actor Darshan Kumaar also responded to Mr. Lapid’s remarks. He plays one of the major roles in the film.
“Everyone has their own individual opinions on anything they see and perceive… But one can’t deny the fact that The Kashmir files are a film which has depicted the actual plight of the Kashmiri Pandit community… who are still fighting for justice against the brutal acts of terrorism… so this film is not on vulgarity but in reality.”
“If the holocaust was right then the exodus of Kashmiri pandits is also right. This seems pre-planned because immediately after it the tool-kit gang became active. It’s shameful for him to make a statement like this even though he comes from a community of Jews who suffered from the holocaust.”
” So, by making a statement like this, he has also pained those people who suffered this tragedy. I would just say may God give him wisdom so that he doesn’t use the tragedy of thousands of people to fulfill his aim on stage.”

Aditya Raj Khoul tweeted,
“Shameless statement on The Kashmir Files by someone who comes across as illiterate. Will this Israeli film director Nadav Lapid call Holocaust a propaganda? Will he call Schindler’s List and The Pianist as propaganda films? ”
Indian Kissinger tweeted,
“It’s govt of indias fault to get him on the jury, without even making a bare minimum research? He has far left political viewing and ofc would have been influenced by his left wing readings. Anurag thakur should be called and asked why was lapid invited, than vice versa.”
I saw the Kashmir file and met the cast. I have a different opinion than Nadav Lapid. After his speech, I told Nadav my opinion. @vivekagnihotri

“Nadal Lapid is part of global leftist cabal and has been in cahoots with Palestinian Islamists. Let us not spoil India-Israel relations for his agenda based vulgar statement designed to produce that very effect.”
