At Randolph, close to East Bateman Street and North Hudson Road, a bystander reported seeing a hit-and-run victim laying injured on the side of the road at about 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

Who is Ricky Gibson?

According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Ricky Gibson is suspected of murdering 85-year-old Melvin Moore after an argument over stolen goods. Moore had just had a motorized bicycle stolen from his property, and Pinal County Sheriff officers discovered that Moore had employed 20-year-old Ricky Gibson to perform odd jobs for him.

Detectives discovered during their inquiry that Moore believed Gibson had taken it. On the property, Moore’s pickup truck was also missing. Around the site of the hit-and-run, at East Turquoise Trail and North La Palma Road, Moore’s truck was quickly discovered abandoned. Gibson was tracked to a neighboring house after being identified as a person of interest.

Many people tried to flee the home as cops were watching it, including Gibson. Authorities swiftly took Gibson and one of his companions into custody. The second person who was interrogated claimed Gibson told him that Moore went to confront him about the stolen bike.

Gibson allegedly overcame Moore at that point, got into Moore’s truck, and drove Moore over. Moore was highly recognized for his commitment in the community in Coolidge and Randolph.

Gibson was taken into custody and lodged in the Maricopa County Prison on first-degree murder charges. His detention is on a $1 million bail.

Sheriff Mark Lamb said,

“My thoughts are with Moore’s family during this time of grieving,”

“I commend the excellent teamwork between my detectives, deputies, dispatchers, the Pinal County Regional Vehicular Crimes Task Force, and the Coolidge Police Department. It was only a matter of hours from the first 911 call to having the suspect in custody.”
