Who is Keith Melvin Moses? Suspect shot and killed Orlando TV journalist is in custody

On Wednesday, a man by the name of Keith Melvin Moses opened fire on two television reporters who were covering a murder close to Orlando, Florida. He wounded one of the journalists and killed the other before killing a 9-year-old girl and injuring her mother in a nearby house, according to authorities. Let’s see about it in detail.

Who is Keith Melvin Moses?

Three people were killed in a shooting spree in Pine Hills on Wednesday, including an Orlando television reporter who was documenting one of the shootings, according to authorities. At a press conference, Orange County Sheriff John Mina revealed that the employees were represented for Spectrum News 13. One individual was being held, according to an earlier tweet from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

19-year-old Keith Melvin Moses has been arrested and charged with murder in relation to a shooting that happened early on Wednesday. Moses is anticipated to face charges in connection with four further gunshots that took place later in the day, including the death of the journalist for Spectrum News 13.

Moses, according to the sheriff, has a long criminal record that includes crimes related to firearms, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies found a woman in her 20s who had been shot and later died from her wounds when they arrived at the 6100 block of Hialeah Street.

On Wednesday, there were many shootings in the Orlando region, and Orange County Sheriff John Mina spoke to the media about them. Authorities reported that a 9-year-old girl and a central Florida television reporter were shot and killed close to the location of another fatal incident from earlier in the day. Keith Melvin Moses, 19, who they believe is responsible for both shootings, has been captured, according to Mina.

Police Statement

On Wednesday morning, deputies were sent to the Pine Hills neighborhood, which is just northwest of Orlando, in response to reports of a lady in her 20s being shot. Although Moses “was an acquaintance of the woman this morning,” Mina added, “as far as we know, he had no link to the reporters, the mother, or the 9-year-old.”

Orange County Sheriff John Mina told a room full of reporters,

“I want to acknowledge what a horrible day this has been for our community and our media partners,”

“I work closely with all of you and know many of you and know the the very difficult job that you do and also the very important job that you do for our community and for law enforcement. No one in our community — not a mother, not a 9-year-old and certainly not news professionals — should become the victim of gun violence in our community.”

Witnesses said that later on Wednesday, a man approached the news truck and started firing, striking the two reporters. After that, the man shot the mother and daughter in a nearby house. The WFTV crews, who were also covering the morning shooting, attempted to provide the Spectrum 13 reporters with medical attention.

Immediately after that shooting, police responded to a third shooting and discovered a mother on Harrington Street and her 9-year-old daughter had also been shot inside a house. According to Mina, it’s unknown why the suspect went into the house.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Twitter,

“Our hearts go out to the family of the journalist killed today and the crew member injured in Orange County, Florida, as well as the whole Spectrum News team.”

Attacks on Journalists

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, there were 40 documented journalist deaths worldwide last year. Two more were reported dead this year up until Wednesday. There was only one of those in America.

Jeff German, a reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal who covers politics and corruption, was discovered dead outside his home in September from multiple stab wounds. Robert Telles, a former public administrator for Clark County, has been charged with murder in connection with the killing.

Reporter Alison Parker from Virginia and cameraman Adam Ward were shot and died in 2015 while working on a live TV broadcast for CBS affiliate WDBJ7. The suspect, a former TV station reporter, committed suicide as police were looking for him.
