Authorities said that two Park Forest grandparents, Klent Elwoods and Lisa Jones, have been charged in relation to the death of their granddaughter, Jada Moore. Keep reading to know more about it in detail.
Who are Klent Elwoods and Lisa Jones?
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reports that 5-year-old Jada Moore of Park Forest passed away as a result of child abuse.
The medical examiner stated in a statement that Jada Moore had “multiple injuries” before she passed away.
According to Park Forest Police, just before 11 p.m. on Friday, officers and paramedics were called to a home in the 300 block of Osage Street for a complaint of a 5-year-old child who was not breathing.
Klent Elwoods, the girl’s 62-year-old grandfather, is accused by police of calling 911, confessing to torturing Jada, and reporting her as unconscious.
When they arrived, the police and paramedics started CPR right away, and Jada was transferred to Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Hospital. After being transported by air to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, she passed away the following morning.
Klent Elwoods and Lisa Jones, his 57 years old wife, both were taken into custody. According to police, both acknowledged to abusing Jada physically.
They will both appear in bond court at the Markham Courthouse on Monday after being charged with first-degree murder.
What happened to the five-year-old grandkid Jada Moore?
The Park Forest Police Department announced the passing of five-year-old Jada Moore with heavy hearts.
According to the police, Jada had recent abuse-related symptoms as well as symptoms from past abuse. Jada was evacuated to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago on July 14, 2023, at 10:50 p.m. Unfortunately, she passed away there on July 15, 2023, at around 9:00 a.m.
Jada exhibited both more current and earlier evidence of physical abuse. When Elwoods and Jones were questioned by Park Forest Detectives, they both acknowledged physically abusing Jada.
Detectives presented all the pertinent information to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on July 16, 2023, and they received their approval to prosecute Elwoods and Jones with First Degree Murder.
The Park Forest Police Department wants to remind everyone that everyone is deemed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
The officers of the Park Forest Police Department are saddened by the terrible death of Jada and want to offer their sincere condolences to her family and friends.
