In Lake Verney on Friday, Sarah Fagan from Mount Pleasant, Dundalk, was discovered unconscious. After competing in a triathlon in southeast France, a woman from Louth has passed away.

The woman, who traveled to France with other competitors from Louth for the race, was found unconscious in Lake Verney in the community of Allemon on Friday while the swimming portion of the race was taking place.

Locally, Sarah Fagan from Mountpleasant, Dundalk, has been identified as the woman from Co. Louth who passed away following her participation in a triathlon in the southeast of France.

In the village of Allemon, where the swimming portion of the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon was taking place on Friday, Ms. Fagan, a contestant, was discovered unconscious in Lake Verney.

It’s believed that the 48-year-old was eventually pulled from the water before emergency personnel started CPR. After being transported by air to a nearby hospital in a serious condition, Ms. Fagan passed away.

Ongoing Investigation

The cause of her death is being investigated, according to French media, and a post-mortem study will be performed in the coming days.

Established in 2006, the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon is well-liked by racers from all around the world. The 2.2-kilometer swim, 115-kilometer bike ride, and 22-kilometer run make up the long course competition.

The race begins with a swim at the Lac du Verney reservoir, followed by a cycling leg that includes 21 Tour de France-style turns and an ascent of 1120 meters to the ski resort of Alpe d’Huez for the run.

Sarah stood out among her peers as she was always smiling, enthusiastic, and willing to help others.
