A student from the Baldwinsville Central School District passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, by a apparent suicide.

Maya Marshall Pickard, a 14-year-old teen died as a result of harassment for being a “Transgender Male,” according to a report.

The beloved teen Pickard was identified as deceased. Following the tragic passing, the entire Baldwinsville community has been thrown into grief.

Why did Maya Marshall commit suicide?

Maya Marsall took his own life yesterday, as the result of bullying. However, the circumstances around the Maya’s death were not known.

Following the incident, a friend of the beloved pupil shared a heartbreaking post.

“If you are struggling please don’t be afraid to reach out. No one especially young people like us should have to go through the pain of losing a close friend due to suicide.

Before you make fun of that person, send that rude text, etc please think of Maya Mark Marshall Pickard. A 14-year-old Durgee junior high student, a good friend of mine, someone who was never afraid to be him until people had a problem with it, committed suicide due to being bullied for being transgender, etc. Never let anyone tell you who you can be.”

Maya ” Marshall” Pickard attended the Durgee Junior High School in Baldwinsville, New York, which is situated around 29 E Oneida St.

“Be all that you can be. He did not deserve this. My heart is crushed for His family, His friends, and me. Please if you see or hear someone calling for help even if it’s silent please act fast. So you never have to go through this devastating pain. I’ll miss you forever sweet boy. Another angel has taken WAY too soon,” the friend added.

Police investigation:

Members of the Baldwinsville Police Department went to 3 Mercer St. in Baldwinsville on March 20 at 3 p.m. to investigate a report of a teenager named Maya “Marshall” Pickard’s death.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating to identify the cause and manner of death. The incident has been discussed on social media in the Baldwinsville neighborhood, according to police chief Michael Lefancheck.

According to Lefancheck, the Baldwinsville Central School District and the family are collaborating closely with the police to establish the veracity of these reports, and the investigation will go on.

Regarding the allegations made on social media, the Baldwinsville Central School District sent another letter to district residents on Tuesday morning.

“We are working collaboratively with Baldwinsville Police Department based on social media posts surrounding this incident.

The statement added, We take all allegations and reports seriously and will be investigating these social media claims.

We ask that reports come to the school so we can follow up on any specific information to substantiate these comments.”

Regardless of the accuracy of these claims, the district intends to be proactive in ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. We encourage all students and families to come forward with concerns.

Maya “Marshall” Pickard, a pupil, passed away on Monday, the Baldwinsville Central School District informed district families in an email. The district stated that Pickard was an 8th student at Durgee Jr. High School.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that I inform you of the tragic loss of Durgee Jr. High School 8th grader, Maya “Marshall” Pickard who passed away unexpectedly tonight.

The district’s Crisis Response Team will be available to support and provide counseling to students and staff. It is important to allow children to talk about their grief experiences and what they need during a time of loss. Counselors urge you to listen to your child’s concerns and questions.
