Louisville bank shooting

Five people were killed, including a personal friend of Kentucky’s governor, when a bank employee in Louisville with a rifle opened fire at his office on Monday morning, according to officials. The shooter live-streamed the crime on Instagram, they added.

According to Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel, officers engaged the shooter in a gunfight after arriving just as shots were still being fired inside Old National Bank.

Craig Greenberg, the mayor of the city, described the assault as “an ugly act of targeted brutality.” The victims were named by the authorities as Joshua Barrick, 40, Deana Eckert, 57, Juliana Farmer, 45, Thomas Elliott, 63, and James Tutt, 64.

The shooting, which is the 15th mass murder in the nation this year, occurs barely two weeks after a former pupil at a Christian elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee, some 160 miles (260 kilometers) to the south, murdered three children and three adults.

The governor of that state and his wife lost acquaintances in that shooting as well. The chief in Louisville named the shooter as Connor Sturgeon, 25, who she claimed was live-streaming the attack.

The bank was not yet open to the public when Sturgeon allegedly entered and began firing around 8:30 a.m., according to the Louisville Metro Police Department. Witnesses reported seeing Sturgeon fire several shots from a “long assault weapon” on the first floor of the bank building.

Police shot and killed Sturgeon when he pointed his rifle at them, according to police chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel, who was live-streaming the attack on Instagram.

CNN said that Sturgeon had written a note for his parents and a friend threatening to shoot up the bank and that he had been informed he would be sacked from the bank.

A Louisville resident named Rickey Readus described how staff members fled and sought refuge at surrounding businesses. Others who were present inside the bank claimed that as soon as they heard gunfire, they ran for cover in conference rooms and restrooms.

According to employee Tammy Madigan who spoke to the Daily Beast, “The bathrooms on our floor had keycode admission, so that was probably the safest location we could think of to hide.” The six of us entered the male lavatory, silenced all sound on our phones, and made an effort to maintain silence.

Police cleared the streets as they soon arrived, according to LMPD Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey, and engaged the shooter inside. He said that the responding officers and the shooter engaged in gunfire.

Finally, he added, “The suspect did pass away at the site.” We’re attempting to determine whether the suspect was murdered by police at this time or whether he committed suicide by shooting himself.

The remaining employees were escorted out of the building after the gunman was killed, according to Madigan, and some of them were able to view Sturgeon’s body on the first floor.

It is now unknown whether he committed suicide or was killed by authorities. Nine people, including two police officers and seven civilians, were admitted after the incident, according to the University of Louisville Hospital.

Who was Connor Sturgeon?

According to his LinkedIn account, Sturgeon worked as a summer intern with the bank for three years in a row before joining as a commercial development professional in 2021 and a full-time associate and portfolio banker last year.

In 2020, Sturgeon graduated from the University of Alabama with a master’s degree in finance. Notably, Todd, his father, coached the University of Indianapolis men’s basketball team from 1992 to 2007, during which time it made five appearances in the NCAA tournament.

At Floyd Central High School in Indiana, where Sturgeon also studied, the father is currently a US history instructor.

Sturgeon’s former friend and teammate’s statement

According to Sturgeon’s former friend and teammate from Floyd Central High School in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, he is “Mr. Floyd Central.” He claimed that Sturgeon was brilliant, well-liked, and a star athlete in basketball, football, and track in high school.

The teammate, who wished to remain nameless, stated, “I know everyone always says this about shooters but I genuinely would have never imagined it to be him.”

Since Sturgeon had sustained so many concussions, he always wore a helmet during basketball games, according to him. We played football together in eighth grade, and in the first year of high school, he missed most of the year due to several concussions, which is the main point I keep returning to.

Then, in high school, he had a few more, the speaker claimed. “I’m not claiming it was the reason, but I always remember that… Would this catch up with him, I used to wonder?  but never in such a manner. He is the last person I would anticipate doing this.

A classmate said Sturgeon had so many concussions that he had to wear a helmet to play basketball.

Social media accounts for the Louisville shooter displayed an ideology

As the police confirm that the shooting was live-streamed on the shooter’s Instagram account, Connor Sturgeon’s Reddit account revealed left-leaning ideologies and anti-Trump sentiment.

Social media is accusing social media companies of wrongdoing and is swimming with theories as to why they deleted Connor Sturgeon’s Instagram and Reddit accounts, who is suspected of being the shooter in the Louisville, Kentucky, massacre.

A gunman’s ideological background and mental health could be inferred from screen photos that astute internet users had taken before the takedowns. Social media had named the 25-year-old shooter (police now believe he was only 23) after being identified by officers in police scanner broadcasts in the moments immediately following the massacre before officials were able to confirm the shooter’s identity.

After the incident, there were suggestions that Sturgeon should have his Instagram account, @csturg41 immediately deleted due to allegations that he LIVE STREAMED the shooting and texted a friend to threaten to kill himself and other coworkers.

‘They won’t listen to words or protests, Let’s see if they hear this.’ Sturgeon posted on his Instagram account minutes before Monday morning’s blood-letting.

‘I could burn this whole place down’

Additionally, ‘Monday vibes.’ Then ‘I could burn this whole place down.’

‘I know what I have to do but I don’t know if I have the strength to do it.’

Unseen pictures of Connor Sturgeon’s happy family life have been made public before he tragically killed five people and injured several others in Louisville on Monday.

Online images uncovered demonstrate Sturgeon is trying to appear to be a typical 25-year-old with family and friends, which raises doubts about his motivations.

Sturgeon started shooting with a rifle at the Old National Bank Building at around 8.38 in the morning while live streaming, according to Louisville Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel. The death toll increased late on Monday from four to five.

Search for Connor Sturgeon’s home

After the shooting, local and federal police sealed off Sturgeon’s street and searched his house, and spoke with his neighbors to see if they could find any evidence.

When she clarified that she didn’t recognize him, neighbor Kami Cooper exclaimed: “I’m practically speechless. You don’t see it at home, but you do in the news, according to Associated Press.

It’s unimaginable, but it could happen to someone on my street. According to Louisville’s Fox affiliate WDRB, police were spotted in recent images leaving Sturgeon’s home with bags full of evidence.
