Louis Tillett passed away

The 63-year-old singer-songwriter Louis Tillett passed away in a Sydney hospital after enduring protracted health issues. He leaves behind an incredible body of work that future generations will treasure. A lovely, compassionate spirit whose loss will be deeply regretted by his fans everywhere.

His Partner Rachael Slattery posted the following online today,

One week ago Louis Tillett passed away. Jack and I were with him to the end. We thank RPAH and Concord Hospitals for allowing Jack and I to stay for days and weeks at a time leading up to his passing. Please remember him as he was, in the words of Hellen Rose, a Cheeky Druid.

He brought joy to our pain, light to our darkness, and a good dose of mischief. I have gone to great lengths to make his Music available everywhere possible. I will leave links in the comments for you to find them. Louis has donated his body to Science. There will be no funeral as such. But please stay tuned for news about his Memorial. Feel free to leave your tributes below in the comments. Warm regards to all.

Louis Tillet cause of death: Prolonged illness

Another great Australian musician has left the music industry. One of the most innovative and talented Australian musicians and songwriters of his generation.

He lost his valiant fight a week ago after a protracted struggle with kidney-related issues. As per the official reports, it was confirmed that Louis Tillet cause of death was a prolonged illness.

Illness before passing

His family members spoke about his illness in 2021 which was posted on his Gofundme Fundraising page. Louis’s bandmates reported that he had been seriously ill for six months in 2021.

Initially, it seemed as though he had chronic kidney disease, but after more examination, it appears that the deadly Mitochondrial Disease, often known as Mita, is his new enemy.

He exhibits all of the symptoms on the extensive list, including recent hearing loss. It’s past cure. There are treatments, but there is no cure. The kidney issue and other odd illnesses result from it attacking other body components. You can read his complete illness history here.

Last Update (February 14, 2023) by Louis Tillett, Organizer

For the purposes of closing this Gofundme campaign, which we do with the deepest gratitude and glad tidings, this will be the last update here.

Louis is improving and doing relatively well, even after the close calls he had, due to rigorous testing, trial, and error, misdiagnosis, Covid delays and shutouts for in-hospital care, and inappropriate medications that pushed him to his limits. Thankfully, he bounced back before hitting the very bottom.

Now, he is resting and recovering whilst responding well to alternative treatment, diet, and lifestyle changes. His kidney function has miraculously plateaued. May this wind fill his sails and allow him to fulfill his dreams of sailing and dreaming. Perhaps he will dream up some new “sea shanties for the soul”.
