Who is Steve Sprayberry?
Steve, a Sylacauga High School graduate from 1969, was a member of Bama’s Wishbone Boys in the early 1970s. Sprayberry was a former Bama football player. He is one of the “Wishbone Boys” under Coach Bryant, and an All-SEC tackle for the 1973 National Championship team.
Steve was remarkable for playing football at Alabama under the Bear. Steve was a Past President of the Alabama Independent Insurance Agents Association. Steve Sprayberry was a great player for famous Coach Tom Calvin at Sylacauga High School during the 1969 state championship season. Mal Moore, the assistant coach for Alabama, was trying to recruit Sprayberry, but there was something that was missing. A Crimson Tide scholarship offer.
Steve had been working in the insurance industry for a while. After succeeding in the insurance industry and holding the position of president of the Alabama Independent Insurance Agencies Association, he moved back to Sylacauga. He has served as a community leader along with his wife, Carol. They currently divide their time between their house on Lake Martin and Sylacauga.

Steve was recalled most fondly as a dominant high school and college athlete as well as a prosperous Sylacauga businessman.
Sprayberry, a 1969 alumnus of Sylacauga High School, played varsity football for two years while serving as co-captain under Coach Tom Calvin. He was an offensive tackle for the University of Alabama in 1972 and 1973, one of Coach Bear Bryant’s “Wishbone Boys,” and an All-SEC tackle in 1973.
When Sprayberry received his degree from the University of Alabama, he went back to Sylacauga. As a former executive, he was semi-retired from the ownership post of Wright-Sprayberry Insurance, a former president of the Alabama Independent Insurance Agencies Association, and served on the Sylacauga City Schools Foundation.
