Issiaga Sylla, a Guinean football player who plays in France, was devastated to learn of his mother’s loss before Montpellier’s match against Nantes in Ligue 1 on May 20. According to GFFN, despite the toll that his mother’s passing had on him, he was still able to play at full strength for his team.

Who is Issiaga Sylla?

Issiaga Sylla, a left-back for Montpellier of Ligue 1 and the Guinean national team, is a professional football player from Guinea.

The Montpellier defender Issiaga Sylla has made 32 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, 15 of which have been for his current team. He had previously participated in the competition in 2022–2023 for Toulouse.

The last league match Sylla participated in was a match between Montpellier and Nantes on May 20. Montpellier won 3-0, and Sylla played 90 minutes of that game. In total, the defender contributed three assists and one goal to Ligue 1 in 2022–2023. On April 16, he scored in a 2-1 loss to Lille to open his account for the season.

Montpellier, who have 47 points and are in 12th place in Ligue 1, will play at home against Nice on May 27. Sylla played 25 times for Toulouse in Ligue 2 last year, contributing two assists. In January 2023, Sylla transferred from Toulouse to Montpellier. While playing for Toulouse, he made 194 league appearances, totaling nine goals and ten assists.

At the age of 21 years and 219 days, Sylla made his competitive debut against Troyes on August 8, 2015, while he was a player for Gazélec Ajaccio. On February 5, 2023, he made his Ligue 1 debut for his current team Montpellier against Strasbourg.

He has played in 238 games over his Ligue 1 career, scoring 11 goals and dishing out 15 assists. In addition, Sylla has accrued 33 total yellow cards during his time in Ligue 1 and has been dismissed three times.

Issiaga Sylla’s Mother died:

The mother of Guinea’s 29-year-old representative, Issiaga Sylla, passed away, and he found out about the tragic loss on the day before the game. Even though he was in pain, he was on the pitch with his teammates.

Just before kickoff, the 29-year-old received the heartbreaking news, and, understandably, he had trouble processing it. Sylla, a Montpellier left-back, was comforted by his teammates while unable to control his tears.

Despite Montpellier’s humiliating victory on Nantes’ lawn this past Saturday (0-3), a picture served as a timely reminder that sports outcomes may not be all that significant. Left-back Issiaga Sylla was unable to control his emotion following his team’s third goal.

The Guinean had strong reason to desire to participate in the game despite learning the previous evening of his mother’s passing. He had his teammates’ support when he was in tears, with Mamadou Sakho taking the lead.

With two games left in the French top division, Montpellier’s 3-0 victory over Nantes increased their chances of finishing in the top half owing in large part to his presence on the field.

African footballers bonding with their moms

A child and his mother form a special link from the moment of birth, and football players are no exception. Due to the nature of their work, moms provide players with essential support since, in a society that values individualism, their unwavering love and care are unmatched.

According to Intechopen, African culture and values represent the mother as the foundation of the family; as a result, when she passes away, it strikes the family hard and leaves a gaping void that is challenging to fill.

In addition to Sylla, other people with a close bond to their moms include Paul Pogba, who is also of Guinean heritage, and former Ghana international Sulley Muntari.
