Drummer D.H. Peligro, an all-around rock star, passed away on October 28, 2022, on Friday at the age of 63. He suffered a head injury from an unintentional fall and died as a result.

His demise was announced by his band, Dead Kennedy, on their social media page. Head trauma is the D.H. Peligro cause of death. Dead Kennedy released a statement of death on the demise of D.h.Peligro and the statement reads,

D.H. Peligro (Darren Henley), the drummer for the Dead Kennedys, went away on October 28 at home in Los Angeles. He died as a result of a fall-related head injury, according to the police that responded to the site. Arrangements are being finalized and will be announced in the coming days. During this trying time, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy. Thank you for your kind words and thoughts. Peligro was 63 years old.

D.H. Peligro cause of death

D.H. Peligro died on October 28, 2022, at the age of 63. He died from trauma to the head caused by an unintentional fall, as per the police report.

Sources say that paramedics arrived at D.H.’s San Fernando Valley home in Los Angeles on Friday shortly after 7 p.m. when he was found lying in his bathroom in his house’s back. He was later found dead by his landlord. D.H. was confirmed dead on the scene. D.H. Peligro cause of death was head trauma.

Who is D.H. Peligro 

Darren Henley Peligro was born on July 9, 1959, in St. Louis, Missouri. He began playing the drums at a young age. He developed a deep interest for rock music during junior high, especially KISS, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and Black Sabbath.

When he was a teenager, he relocated to San Francisco and spent time living on the streets in a van. During this time, he encountered bands including Television, the Ramones, Devo, and the Go-Gos. He felt as though a new world had opened up to him after he met the S.S.I. members and joined the group.

“They told me about thrift store shopping and clubs and punk gear,” Peligro later recounted in an interview. “It was actually quite exciting when I think about that time because people were accepted. It was my first introduction to gay people and different-colored hair and mohawks and people just living free like every day was Halloween!”

D.H. Peligro career

In February 1981, Peligro became a member of The Dead Kennedys, and in December of the same year, the EP In God We Trust was published.

He also contributed to the studio albums, Bedtime for Democracy, Frankenchrist, and Plastic Surgery Disaster.
Additionally, he was included in singles and rarities compilations like Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death.

After the dissolution of The Dead Kennedys in December 1986, Peligro transitioned to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, replacing Jack Irons.

While performing with S.S.I, he established himself on the San Francisco and Los Angeles music scenes, most notably for fusing punk rock, hardcore, metal, and reggae in his drumming. He collaborated on the writing of numerous songs for Red Hot Chili Peppers’ fourth album, Mother’s Milk, and performed with them.

John Frusciante, who soon after joined as their new guitarist, met Kiedis and Flea through Peligro when he was still a teenager. In November of the same year, he lost his job. Several weeks later, Red Hot Chili Peppers brought in Chad Smith to take his position. Biafra was replaced by Brandon Cruz when Ray, Peligro, and Flouride reformed the Dead Kennedys in 2001.

Peligro was a part of the band’s whole reunion endeavor, from many tours to live album releases including Mutiny on the Bay, Live at the Deaf Club, and DK 40.

In the later years of his career, Peligro collaborated with a variety of musicians, including Moby, Feederz, the Aliens without Roky Erickson, and Nailbomb, both live and in the studio. Additionally, he started a group called Peligro, which put out albums with the namesake, Welcome to America, and Sum of Our Surroundings.

He also served as the frontman for the band Al Sharpton’s Hair, the Hellions, and Reverend Jones and the Cool Aid Choir. Peligro was a prominent Black punk rock figure who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind about his experience with racism while touring.

He said, “Music would take me to places I wouldn’t normally go, and it’s fine while you were onstage, but when you got off, they’d get drunk and call you all kinds of names. You go down South, you go across the Midwest, then people were thinking that it was music for white people, or I was the janitor or security or something. You got to experience racism firsthand because everybody wasn’t as open-minded as they were in San Francisco. It’s a bit more open and accepted today, but there are still pockets of people who want to use punk rock to create hate music. That angers me to no end.”

I was just talking to my friend Scott Shriner about a fun show we played for charity with D.H on drums, he was such an incredible character! He lit up a room whenever he entered it!
