Boybits Victoria, a former PBA player died unexpectedly. He was 50 at the time of passing. His brother, Bing, confirmed this sad news on Wednesday.

According to the statement provided by Bing, Boybits died as a result of an unexpected myocardial infarction. Tributes flooded online after the demise news of PBA star broke out.

Who was Boybits Victoria?

Boybits Victoria started his career when he was studying at San Beda College. Victoria won the PBA Rookie of the Year award in 1994 and went on to win seven championships.

Boybits previously competed in the PBA, and the league recognized him as the Rookie of the Year in 1994. He also won the match that year.

He was a member of both the RFM and the San Miguel franchises during his time in the league. Victoria played for both teams during this time.

This happened while Boybits was a member of the league and participated in its activities. Boybits is one of the products that arose as a direct result of the collegiate success of San Beda College’s men’s basketball team.

He was the 1994 3rd pick overall (PBA Draft) and two times Mythical Team Member. Victoria was a member of the RFM franchise until 1998 when he was traded to San Miguel, where he backed up Olsen Racela during the Beermen’s successful run from 1999 to 2001.

He was a member of the RFM franchise that fell a conference short of completing a grand slam the following year after winning the Philippine Cup and Commissioner’s Cup under Derick Pumaren.

After his retirement, Victoria briefly tried his hand at coaching and later became a panelist for the league’s radio and TV broadcasts.

In 2018, the former national player was hospitalized for several weeks after being diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder that, if left untreated, could lead to paralysis.

His most recent known positions were as the head of sales of Victoria Sports, an indoor sports club based in Quezon City.

Still in shock, man. Out of a whim while leafing through an old PBA hardbound book yesterday, saw an image of BSC Marketing ‘mate taken during his rookie season. Matched up against fellow Red Cub legend, Gerry Esplana. So easily at the drop of a hat, the Bedan narrative was a gimme. Was locked in as I typed on the keyboard and while words generously flowed freely, I remained clueless about his condition. Yet, found it as a consolation, I saw him ‘hearting’ my post. Prolly he read it too.
