Bobby Weinstein was born and brought up in York City, where he attended the Manhattan School of Industrial Art. While there, he formed The Legends with classmates Marshall Samples, Ron Wardwell, Richard “Chico” Brunson, Sampson Reese, and Dominick Fleres. The group won a talent contest at the Apollo Theater in 1955 and documented for the minor Melba and Hull labels before disbanding. Weinstein’s The Legend of Love was one of the songs recorded by the ensemble.
