Who was Barry West?

Barry West was an English professional snooker player.

West was born on October 24, 1958, and he started playing snooker professionally in 1985.

From 1985 through 1997, West competed on the professional tour, with a high world rating of 21.

In 1985 and 1988, he advanced to the quarterfinals of the UK Championship, as well as the same round of the 1988 International Open.

UK Championship

West lost against Steve Davis 1-9 in the quarterfinals of the 1985 UK Championship, Jimmy White 2-5 in the final of the 1988 International Open, and Terry Griffiths 5-9 in the final of the UK Championship that year.

He also advanced to the English Professional Championship semifinal in 1988, where he was defeated 6-9 by Neal Foulds.

1992 Season

West was dropped from the tour at the age of 38 when his world ranking dropped to 66th in the early 1990s after the 1992–1993 season.

He concluded the 1996–1997 season at 179th. To compete again, West entered the 2010 World Championship qualifying round. Del Smith defeated West 1-5 on his first attempt.

World Seniors Championship

He competed in the 2012 World Seniors Championship, winning three matches to go to the round of 16, where he fell to Dene O’Kane 0-2; he then participated in the 2013 competition but dropped his opening match to Les Dodd 1-2.
