Alan Hopgood has worked as an actor and scriptwriter for over forty years. Hopgood was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in January 2005 in acknowledgment of his work in the performing arts as an actor, playwright, and producer, as well as his efforts to raise community awareness of men’s health issues. Alan Hopgood AM (born September 29, 1934) is a writer and actor from Australia. Hopgood also wrote several screenplays for film and television, such as the comedy Alvin Purple (1973), which was Australia’s highest-grossing film in the early 1970s.

Hopgood worked for the Melbourne Theatre Company for 10 years and was an early Bellbird soap star, playing the town doctor for six years. He also played Wally Wallace in the later soap opera “The Prisoner” (for which he also wrote many episodes) and Jack Lassiter in Neighbors (he reprised the role in August 2013).

My Brilliant Career (1979), The Blue Lagoon (1980), The Road Game (1981), Evil Angel (1988), and The Man in the Snow (1988) are among his films as an actor.
