Later, the OHL revealed that two other games, between the Erie Otters and the Saginaw Spirit and the Peterborough Petes and Kingston Frontenacs, were also postponed “out of sensitivity” to the individuals involved and “who were close” to Kazbekov.

Several media outlets reported that Kazbekov passed away on Saturday morning after falling from an apartment building in the city. Abakar Kazbekov cause of death is believed as suicide. According to sources, Kazbekov passed away in the city’s center, where London police on Saturday morning shut down an intersection after discovering a body outside a high-end condo building. Outside the Azure Condominiums, Talbot Street was blocked off by police tape near Dufferin Avenue.
Just after 8 a.m., according to the police, the scene was contacted. Near 8:20 a.m., London Police Service officers were called to the scene after being informed that Kazbekov’s body was lying on the pavement at the corner of Dufferin Avenue and Talbot Street.
While the inquiry went on throughout the afternoon on Saturday, Talbot Street was still closed between Kent Street and Dufferin Avenue.

Kazbekov’s passing shocked the Ontario Hockey League, calling it a “devastating loss,” and astonished Londoners, prompting public responses from Mayor Josh Morgan and Police Chief Steve Williams.
“Our heartfelt condolences to Abakar’s family and loved ones, including his London Knights teammates and the entire Knights organization,” Williams announced on social media.
Who was Abakar Kazbekov?
Abakar Kazbekov, a hockey player from Richmond Hill, Ontario, was born on May 30, 2004, and played from 2021 to 2023.
He played for the Ontario Hockey League.
The 18-year-old participated in the Owen Sound Attack’s 5-2 home win on Friday. Kazbekov made 12 appearances with London in 2022–2023 and recorded one assist.
The Knights selected the six-foot-one Russian center in the first round of the under-18 draught in 2021. At the time, Kazbekov’s “excellent hockey sense, top playmaking abilities, and… Tremendous shot” were lauded by GM Mark Hunter.
Kazbekov had previously played for the AAA U16 Vaughan Kings team. Over the last two seasons, he appeared in 21 games for the Knights and contributed two points.
