Hinds County double Homicide: Two shot and killed near Jackson St. Paddy’s Parade after intervening in a domestic dispute.
Hinds County Double Homicide
After trying to intervene in an ongoing domestic argument, two people were shot and killed on Saturday afternoon. Their bodies were left in the street, and bullet fragments were found on the pavement of a parking lot just a few blocks away from Hal’s St. Paddy’s Parade, which was still going on.
According to police, the incident, which happened in the parking lot of the Agriculture and Commerce Department building on Jefferson Street near the state fairgrounds, took place around 1 p.m., just as the parade was beginning nearby on the corner of Court and State streets.
Who is Jordan Kyle Cummins?
Jordan Kyle Cummins allegedly was involved in a domestic dispute inside of his 2008 Gold Chevrolet Malibu, and two bystanders exited their cars and attempted to intervene. Cummins is then believed to have opened fire on the bystanders, said Capitol Police Chief Bo Luckey from the scene. Cummins, who lives in Richland, then drove away in the direction of his hometown.
Capitol Police arrested Jordan Kyle Cummins, 27, in connection with this incident in Hinds County double Homicide: Two shot and killed near Jackson St. Paddy’s Parade after intervening in a domestic dispute.. Cummins originally fled the scene in a 2008 Gold Chevrolet Malibu with the tag RAX 5933.
CPO arrived immediately at the scene
When shots were fired, Capitol Police officers responded within about a minute at the Hinds County double Homicide scene ,since they were covering the neighboring parade and an event at the fairgrounds, according to Luckey. Cummins had already left at that point. After local law enforcement recognized his car, he was subsequently captured in Rankin County.
“Suspect fled the scene, went back to Rankin County, we notified Rankin County of the suspect’s vehicle and name, and he is now in custody,” Luckey said. “We have the suspect, vehicle located, and weapon used located.” Luckey said the victims’ identities could not be released at this time.
What did the Chief say about Double Homicide?
The chief said that because it was a domestic dispute there was never a threat to those attending the parade. Unfortunately, this was one of those situations that had started in a family dispute that had taken place in the parking lot. Nobody intentionally caused harm by coming to the parade, according to Luckey. “The suspect did not pick targets at random in this situation. This involved a fight between the white male suspect and his girlfriend in the parking lot; sadly, the victims got involved and that’s when there were gunshots.
Hinds County Supervisor David Archie was one of many to approach the scene. Archie’s nephew, Kingston Frazier, was murdered as a 6-year-old in 2017. “My heart hurts,” Archie said. “This is tough, tough, tough. To be a father in this county, you just hate to see families going through what they’re going through. This shouldn’t happen, and it happened. I’m experiencing my nephew, Kingston Frazier, all over again,” Archie said. As police continued to work the scene, a group of about 15 people formed a circle, leaned on each other, and began to pray.

Alleged video from jail.
Jordan Kyle Cummins, the suspect connected to a double homicide that happened Saturday near the Hal’s St. Paddy’s Day Parade, has reportedly posted a video on social media. (Below is Cummins’ mug shot, and a screenshot from the alleged video.) The video has drawn a response from Tyree Jones, Sheriff of Hinds County:
I was notified this evening about a video that is circulating on social media of two Hinds County detainees in one of our facilities posting to social media.
I find the content of the video to be very disturbing. Upon confirming the identity of the two individuals, measurements were immediately taken to recover the electronic device. During the investigation, deputies recovered two cellular Trophone, and more charges are forthcoming.
I’ve also consulted with the Hinds County District Attorney, Jody Owens, regarding the content of the video and those responsible for the content to determine more charges. My heart goes out to the victims and those affected by the behavior and alleged crimes imposed by one of the detainees in the video.
