After being shot in Gage Park, a Chicago police officer passes away. Let’s see about the Gage park shooting and Who is Montana Steven the Suspect who shot and killed a Chicago police officer in detail.

Gage park shooting: What happened?

Late on Wednesday afternoon, in response to a report about a domestic incident, a gunshot in the Gage Park area resulted in the death of a Chicago Police officer.

At a late-night news conference with Mayor Lori Lightfoot, CPD Supt. David Brown stated that two different squad vehicles had been dispatched in response to a report of a man chasing a woman with a gun in the 5200 block of South Spaulding Avenue.

OFFICER SHOT BY THE SUSPECT

According to Brown, the policeman started after the suspect, an 18-year-old man who was known to have a pistol. And the officer was shot by the suspect, who then fired back, striking each other at very close quarters. Both the officer’s leg and face were shot.

The cop was injured and transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later passed away. Brown stated that the officer had a “promising career ahead of him” and had worked for CPD for five years. Brown did not mention the officer’s name, merely stating that he was a guy.

We now know that the officer was married and that his wife had previously visited Mount Sinai. Brown underlined how the cop pursued the suspect while being aware of their firearm.

SUSPECT WOUNDED

They were prepared to risk their lives to keep this person safe, Brown added. “They’re there, they recognize him as the gun-wielding offender, but unfortunately, as soon as they do, he turns and shoots at the cop without giving them any prior notice or warning.”

Moreover, Brown did not name the suspect, simply stating that he is 18 years old and was shot in the head. Although he was still alive as of Wednesday night, he is in critical condition. No other officers utilized their rifles, he noted.

MONTANO STEVEN CRIMINAL HISTORY

In connection with a shooting that injured a 27-year-old Chicago man in Little Village on the Southwest Side, three persons have been charged.

Around 8:21 p.m. on Thursday, the guy was shot by someone driving a white Honda when he was standing in the 2600 block of West 23rd Street, according to Chicago police. After the shooting, the car sped away from the scene.

The victim was shot in the knee and was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. After a short period of time, police in the 7400 block of South Parnell Avenue detained Steven Montano, 18, Rodrigoo Ramirez, 22, and a 15-year-old kid.

According to authorities, the youngster was charged with felony counts of aggravated unauthorized use of a weapon and aggravated battery with a handgun.

Ramirez was accused of using a weapon unlawfully and fleeing or attempting to flee from police on felony counts. According to an official, Montano was charged with a misdemeanor count of resisting police. The three suspects had a Saturday afternoon bond court date.

ONGOING INVESTIGATION CASE

According to Brown, the shooting is the subject of an ongoing investigation, which will be given to the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.

At the press conference, Mayor Lightfoot stated, “I want to remind people that cops rush to risk every single day, on every shift, for our protection. “Thank an officer for their service if you encounter them tonight, tomorrow, or the day after that.”

One cop was lying by a playground when three or four loud bangs were heard, according to a witness at the scene in Gage Park, who also saw police hurrying to the area.

“I heard loud booms and saw families scurrying across the street to escape the danger. I observed a police officer holding onto whoever was present as more officers fled in that way “Jose, the witness, claimed. “They simply started running towards the person who had been shot. More police were passing by, which I witnessed.”

Police were preventing anyone from entering the area near the scene of the officer’s shooting, according to a man who was there walking his dog and telling CBS 2’s Marissa Perlman. Home access was extremely restricted.

The man declared that he found the events unbelievable. He claimed to have lived on the Southwest Side for 20 years, and while there have been times when a crime has been a concern, he has never heard of a police officer being shot and murdered in the neighborhood.

OFFICERS’ STATEMENT ON THIS INCIDENT

Christian Marquez added, “It’s awful, it’s unfortunate, and it’s not something that belongs here in this city. You may not always be aware of what is in your community.

To figure together exactly what happened, police will watch POD and body camera footage. While this was happening, outside of Mount Sinai, on California and Ogden avenues, several police squad cars gathered at and surrounded the hospital.

Hours later, the ambulance carrying the deceased officer’s body and the squad cars made a mournful procession to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

As the ambulance pulled up to the Medical Examiner’s office at 2121 West Harrison Street, hundreds of police officers were already there.

On Wednesday night, fellow Chicago Police Officer Danny Golden was one of those who showed their support. Golden was wounded in July when he attempted to break up a fight in a Beverly club while not on duty.

Golden received a gunshot wound to the back, cutting his spine and rendering him paralyzed below the waist. He arrived at the Chicago County Medical Examiner’s office on Wednesday evening in advance of the procession.

Many people’s painful recollections of the last time a Chicago Police officer was shot and died in the line of duty were stirred up by the tragedy.

Officer Ella French and Officer Carlos Yanez Jr. were shot in Englewood during a traffic stop back in August 2021. Yanez was gravely hurt, and the French were killed. Only 29 years old, French.

The two finalists in the 2023 mayoral race, Brandon Johnson and Paul Vallas, each issued statements of sorrow and support. Johnson said in a statement:

“This is a sad and sorrowful day for our city, and my heart goes out to the family, friends and colleagues of the Chicago police officer whose life was taken in the line of duty in Gage Park this afternoon. I am praying for healing for all those close as we await further details on this tragedy.”

Vallas issued his statement

“The courageous men and women of the @Chicago_Police have suffered another tragic loss of one of their own to the ultimate sacrifice of protecting our communities. My heartfelt thoughts are with the officer’s loved ones and the entire CPD family who are grieving during this difficult time. This is a tragic reminder of what our police officers do each and every day, laying their lives on the line for us. This violence must come to an end.”

Other city leaders also showed support. In a statement, Ald. Marty Quinn (13th), whose ward starts a short distance south and west of the scene of the shooting, issued this statement:

“I support our Chicago Police Department 100 percent, and tonight I stand with them as they mourn the loss of one of their own. My thoughts are with the officer’s family and our brave officers who put their lives on the line every day to protect our city.”

Shortly after Mayor Lightfoot’s administration announced that Supt. Brown would resign later this month to take a new position in Texas, this shooting occurred. Until a new mayor is sworn in, First Deputy Supt. Eric Carter will take over for Brown.
