How did Eleanor Haigh die?

With Eleanor’s family’s consent, Huddersfield Town FC confirmed that she passed away this afternoon (Friday).

Fans, employees, and anyone connected to the football club have placed condolence messages and tributes to Eleanor for her family and friends.

A post on the club’s Facebook page read:

We’re absolutely devastated that our friend and colleague Eleanor Haigh, has passed away this afternoon.

26-year-old El, a hugely popular member of our communications team, had worked for Town for just under four years and will be massively missed by us all.

Our thoughts are with her parents, friends, and family at this time.

We will pay full tribute to Eleanor in the coming days.

The Examiner reporter Steven Chicken tweeted his disbelief at the news. “Absolutely awful news for everyone linked with Huddersfield Town,” he commented in reaction to the statement. Eleanor was someone I had the good fortune to call a friend as well as a sort of colleague, so this is just so awful and unfair.

Eleanor was gregarious, outgoing, and humorous with everyone. She was delightfully proud every time an academy player made their first-team debut; she was so dedicated to the club and I know she was like a big sister to some of the younger players as well.

“She will be much missed, as will she be by everyone who knew her. Above all things, I’m sending my condolences to her family, friends, and clubmates who have endured a terribly trying week.”

‘And He Takes That Chance,’ a Huddersfield Town podcast hosted by Richard Kosmala, stated: “devastating news Such a pleasure to interact with. Love to her friends, family, and coworkers. Such excellent humour and manners.”

Oliver Eaton, a member of the Huddersfield Town Women’s media staff, stated: “terrible news Eleanor performed admirably in her position and was a wonderful host at Town Women for both me and other guests. RIP. Her friends and family are in our thoughts.”
