Chandigarh

Aam Aadmi Party has suffered a setback in the Chandigarh Mayor Election. Despite being the largest party, the Bharatiya Janata Party has made its mayor here. BJP’s Sarabjit Kaur has become the mayor of Chandigarh. One vote of the Aam Aadmi Party got canceled due to torn ballot paper. After the election results, all the councilors of the Aam Aadmi Party sat on a dharna. After a scuffle inside the municipal corporation, the marshal was called to handle the situation.

Although AAP has won the maximum number of councilors in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections, the contest became interesting with the BJP’s bets. In the election, there was a contest between BJP and AAP, Congress did not field its candidate. In such a situation, the direct contest was between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and BJP. The Aam Aadmi Party had shifted the councilors to Delhi due to fear of breakdown during the elections.

Voting through Secret Ballot

The election of the new mayor of Chandigarh was held on January 8 at 11 am at the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation office. Along with the mayor, the Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh were also elected. Voting for the mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation was held through a secret ballot.

During the counting, it was found that a ballot paper of the Aam Aadmi Party was torn. That vote was rejected. Let us tell you that only women councilors could apply for mayor because this post has been reserved for women councilors for the first and fourth years.

Chandigarh Mayor Election was held on 24 December

Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections were held on 24 December in which no party could cross the majority mark (19). 14 corporators of AAP, which debuted in the election, had won, while 12 from BJP, 8 from Congress, and 1 councilor of Akali Dal had won.

Ward number 10 councilor Harpreet Kaur Babla along with her husband Devinder Singh Babla left Congress and joined BJP. After this, the number of councilors of BJP has increased to 13 while that of Congress has come down to 7.

One vote of Chandigarh

MP is also valid in the mayoral election, one vote of Chandigarh MP is also valid, after which BJP got 14 votes. Film actress Kirron Kher represents Chandigarh in the Parliament. In such a situation, if there is cross voting out of 1 vote of Akali Dal and 7 votes of Congress, then the post of mayor can go to BJP’s account.
