Yamba Murder-Suicide: Wayne Smith & Noah shot and killed, father and son died tragically

Police are investigating the deaths of Wayne Smith & Noah in a coastal New South Wales town as a murder-suicide. Let’s see more about the Yamba Murder-Suicide in detail.

Yamba Murder-Suicide- explained:

Information concerning a father and son who were discovered dead in a possible murder-suicide has come to light.

On Thursday, Wayne Smith, 58, and his son Noah, 15, were discovered dead inside a house on Kookaburra Circuit in Yamba in a suspected murder-suicide. 

On Friday, Supt. Shane Cribb referred to the occurrence as “tragic” and highlighted the effects it will have on the neighborhood. He claimed that prior to the deaths, there was nothing to suggest that anyone was in a dangerous situation.

“Police will speak to a number of people … we’ll look at the history of both the father and the son, we’ll look at any family history, we’re looking at the school,” he said. 

Cribb stated that assistance was being offered to family members as well as the boy’s school. “We have been actively involved with a family right from the start,” he stated.

“We have wrapped as much welfare around the families as we can, but we’ve also taken the welfare to another step and now we’ve got schools involved.”, he added.

What happened to Wayne Smith and Noah?

At around 1.10 pm on Thursday, emergency personnel was called to a residence in Yamba, around 128 kilometers south of Byron Bay, after reports of two bodies were discovered. 

Police discovered the bodies of Wayne Smith, 58, and Noah, 15 years old.  The two, who had been residing in the area for at least ten years, were identified as father and son by their neighbors.

In the little hamlet on the NSW east coast, Noah played junior football, and Wayne spent 40 years working for the local Port Authority

The 58-year-old father was a licensed gun owner, according to New South Wales Police, and “detectives have requested his licensing history from the NSW Firearms Registry.” 

Tragic incident:

Superintendent of the Coffs-Clarence Police District Shane Cribb called the tragedy a “tragic situation” and said officers have been monitoring the family of the victim’s wellbeing. 

Wayne Smith owned the gun that was discovered in the residence. Prior to his passing, Smith was employed with the Port Authority of NSW.

Philip Holliday, the chief executive of the authority, claimed that Smith’s coworkers were receiving support. He also shared his heartfelt condolences, saying, “Our sincere thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends and colleagues at this time”.

Yamba Buccaneers Rugby Club where Noah played also shared their condolences saying, We’re devastated by the tragic passing of former Buccaneers junior Noah Smith, and our condolences are with his family, friends and former teammates at this difficult time”.

The club has offered assistance to those who have been impacted and will pay respect to Noah at our junior games this evening and our senior game on Saturday.
