Who was Ty Wells?
Wells was a breaststroke specialist for the Wildcats in his fifth season with the club. He achieved personal records in the 50, 100, and 200-meter breaststroke events at the Pac-12 Championships in 2022, and he participated in the USA Olympic Team Trials in Omaha in June in preparation for the 2022 Tokyo Games.
He most recently competed in the 100- and 200-meter breast events at the Toyota US Open Championships in Charlotte from November 30 to December 3.
Wells, a California native, attended Ripon High School and earned four letters in swimming and water polo before graduating in 2018. Over Cal Baptist, Indiana, Pacific, and Utah, he chose Arizona.
Wells graduated with a degree in physiology in May and intended to work in physical therapy or sports medicine, according to his online résumé. In 2021–2022, he was a CSCAA Scholar All-American.

He was a guiding light to all of his friends and teammates as well as to all of us parents. He brought out the best in all of us and cared so deeply for all of his friends. His spirit was contagious, his smile lit up a room and he was a big brother to so many.
We are grateful for anything to help his family, Mom, and Dad, Sandy, and Joe Wells, and their daughter Jessica, get thru this difficult time without having to do anything but grieve and cherish the times they had with their beautiful son Ty.

Several program sources told that the Arizona medical examiner is still trying to determine the cause of death and that the stories going around that the death was brought on by a motorcycle accident are inaccurate.
The uncertainty might be related to a motorbike accident that happened in California in 2022 and involved someone with the same name.
Cause of death
Nobody should assert that Ty Wells passed away from bacterial infection, Medical examiner confirmed.
Nobody should assert that Ty Wells died from the COVID-19 vaccination SADS or any other cause of death before his autopsy is finished and the results are made public.
Some of those who attribute Ty Wells’ death to the COVID-19 vaccine assert that the University of Arizona has a vaccine mandate, however, this is untrue. Even in 2021–2022, the University of Arizona never required the COVID-19 vaccination.
Ty Wells may or may not have received the COVID-19 vaccine, hence it would be incorrect to assert that the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine caused his death.
We don’t even know if he has a vaccination! Despite what anti-vaccination extremists may assert, there is no vaccine requirement at the University of Arizona, and the COVID-19 vaccine is not required in the United States.
Update:
After conducting a postmortem investigation, the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the exact cause of death of Ty Wells.
On February 3, 2023, the medical examiner confirmed that Wells passed away from “natural causes secondary to a disseminated streptococcal bacterial infection following a protracted upper respiratory tract infection.”
