Marshfield couple’s Murder case: Explained

Carl and Vicki Mattson, both 70, were found stabbed and battered in their home in Marshfield, a town about 30 miles southeast of Boston. Keeley was sought in connection with their deaths.

As per the news statement from the district attorney’s office on Wednesday, when police visited to check on the victims’ well-being on Tuesday night, they discovered the deaths.  According to the district attorney’s office, the police also discovered a dead dog inside the residence.

The cause and circumstances of the victims’ deaths are being looked at by the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

According to Keeley’s arrest on a warrant as an out-of-state fugitive, Miami-Dade County jail records show this. It was unclear at first if Keeley had hired a lawyer. Questions were not immediately answered by representatives of the Massachusetts State Police and the Miami-Dade Police Department. It was impossible to speak with a district attorney’s office representative for Plymouth County right away.

After being informed by the Marshfield Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office opened an investigation into the event.

According to the district attorney’s office, detectives established probable cause and named Keeley a person of interest in the double homicide.

Timothy Cruz, the district attorney for Plymouth County, stated previously that it was unknown when the attack began but that it appeared to be targeted.

Keeley was a friend of the couple’s son, according to neighbors, and had been residing with them for a while. According to reports, the victim’s daughter last saw her parents on Thanksgiving, and Keeley allegedly told friends the next day that they were probably dead because he got into a fight with them about a barking dog.

The local media outlet also claimed, citing court records, that there were indications of a struggle, including a bookcase that had been turned upside down, and that Keeley’s friend had asked for the well-being check. No one could be reached right away to speak with the Plymouth District Court Clerk. Records related to the case have been confiscated, according to paperwork released by the Plymouth Clerk’s Office on Friday.

Keeley’s Family Statement

Keeley, popularly known as “Crispy,” stands 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. Cruz claimed that he may have colored his blonde hair red.

The Keeley family’s attorney, Kathleen R. Fay, provided the following statement to the media: “The family of Christopher Keeley was informed by the Massachusetts State Police that they planned to question Christopher about an incident in Marshfield at around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. The family of Mr. Keeley has offered their full cooperation to the Mass State Police.

“The purported incidents are horrifying and seriously harmful to everyone concerned. We are very saddened by the loss of the entire Mattson family. The Keeley family is currently processing this senseless tragedy, and they kindly ask that the media respect their privacy at this time.”
