New Law to own Gun license
Meanwhile, a US federal judge temporarily overturned significant portions of an earlier New York statute governing gun licensing.
The state has “further reduced a first-class constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense” into a mere “request,” according to Judge Glenn T. Suddaby of the US District Court for the Northern District of New York.
He said that some legal provisions lacked any historical support, a contentious standard advanced by the supreme court in the spring.
Gun-free zone
The bill was passed in response to a Supreme Court ruling last summer that invalidated several protections.
One section of New York law that the state is prohibited from enforcing designates Times Square as a “gun-free zone.” According to a report, the regulation aims to ban carrying a concealed firearm outside of the home.
