Following his performance at the Laver Cup next week, Roger Federer announced on Thursday that he will retire from competitive tennis. Let’s see Roger Federer announced retirement.

Roger Federer announced retirement

Roger Federer, the Wimbledon and Grand Slam champion, has made his retirement from competitive tennis official. Along with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, the Swiss player has long been regarded as a “Big Three” male professional tennis player. Serena Williams, a tennis legend, recently announced that she is leaving the sport and “developing” her career in a new direction. This news comes just one month after Williams’ announcement.

He declared that the upcoming Laver Cup in London will be his final ATP competition. Although he won’t take part in any more Grand Slam tournaments or the ATP Tour, Federer will still play tennis in the future. I shall miss everything the tour has given me, so this is a difficult decision, he added.

Federer issued a touching comment on social media that said, “Of all the blessings that tennis has given me over the years, the greatest without a doubt has been the individuals I’ve met along the road.” “My family, my teammates, and most importantly the supporters who breathe life into the sport.”

What happened?

Due to a knee injury, Federer was forced to withdraw from the 2021 U.S. Open. He has since undergone many surgeries and endured rehabilitation in an effort to recover, albeit a full recovery has proven more challenging than he initially thought.

What did he say?

However, he added, “I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been obvious. I’ve fought hard to return to full competitive shape. “I’ve played more than 1,500 games over the course of 21 years and am 41 years old. Tennis has been more generous to me than I could have ever imagined, but now I have to decide whether to call it quits on my competitive career.”

“However, there is also much to rejoice in. I think of myself as one of the luckiest individuals alive since I was given a special aptitude for tennis and could practice it for much longer than I ever dreamed.”

What did his family say?

Federer praised his wife Mirka and their four children as well as his staff, sponsors, and supporters for their unwavering support throughout his career. He said, “Finally, to the game of tennis: I love you, and I will never leave you,” saying, “Seeing my family cheering me on from the stands is a feeling I will remember forever.”
