What Happened in the Parking Lot?

When the officers were sent to the parking lot of a Motel 6 in Bay St. Louis at 4:30 a.m. for a welfare check, Amy Anderson, 43, and a female kid were seated in a parked SUV, according to a statement from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

Investigators claim that Anderson spoke with Sgt. Steven Robin and Officer Branden Estorffe of the Bay St. Louis Police Department for almost 30 minutes before opening fire at them while they were inside the car.

Two officers Dead

According to the police statement, the officers requested Child Protection Services during the exchange. In the parking lot, Robin, 34, passed away. Shortly after, at the hospital, Estorffe, 23, passed away, according to agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

When they responded to a call at a Motel 6 on Wednesday morning, Sgt. Steven Robin(left) and officer Branden Estorffe(Right) were killed in the course of duty.

When more police arrived on the scene, they discovered Anderson dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. According to an earlier report, the woman shot herself.

What happened to the girl inside the SUV was unknown.

Who is Amy Anderson ?

According to her Facebook page, Anderson was a lifelong veterinarian who worked at MedVet in Mobile.

A records search revealed that she also worked at veterinary clinics in Gulfport, Ocean Springs, and Vicksburg, where she grew up.

When Anderson was old enough to understand what it was, she told the Vicksburg Post in 2005 that she had always wanted to be a veterinarian.

She was carrying on the legacy of her father, Bob Anderson, a veterinarian who spent 18 years working at Vicksburg Animal Hospital.

Anderson graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in nutrition and dietetics. At Mississippi State University, she pursued a degree in veterinary medicine.

Investigation

At a news conference on Thursday morning, police said more details would be disclosed.

A large portion of the motel parking lot was crime scene taped off by investigators on Wednesday.

Just a few steps from from the pavement and abandoned emergency medical supplies, a police officer was observed taking pictures of an SUV’s driver’s seat.

The interior of an adjacent police cruiser was being examined by other cops.

Located 25 miles (40 kilometres) west of Biloxi, Bay St. Louis is a city of 10,000 people.

Memorial Service to honor the Police officers

At City Hall, where the Bay St. Louis Police Department is located, a temporary memorial has been placed in the memory of the law enforcement personnel who have died in the line of duty.

Governor of Mississippi Tate Reeves expressed his “heartbreak” and prayed for the families and the “entire Bay St. Louis community.”

 “I am praying for their family, friends, their fellow officers, and the entire Bay St. Louis community.”

“Every single day across Mississippi, our law enforcement members place their lives on the line in constant and repeated acts of selfless sacrifice for their communities.”

“They are a key reason that the rest of us are safely and freely able to live our lives.”

“They are the thin blue line.”

Mike Favre, the mayor of Bay St. Louis, urged those who were aware of the crisis to keep the neighborhood in their prayers throughout the ensuing days and weeks.

“A tragedy occurred here today in the city of Bay St. Louis as two of our finest officers’ lives were taken.”

“This is a very sad situation, and our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to the families of our lost officers.”

“We are gathering facts and will ensure a thorough investigation into this matter.”
