Oscar shortlists: Why RRR snubbed for VFX and sound? Shortlisted for Naatu Naatu song, Explained

Oscars 2023 shortlists: RRR ignored! Fans are upset that the film didn’t make the shortlists for the original score and visual effects. Learn more about why RRR was snubbed for VFX and sound and fan’s reactions in detail.

Oscars 2023 ‘Best Song’ Category

RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, was included on an Oscar shortlist. The MM Keeravani song Naatu Naatu, which is well-known, is on the shortlist for “Best Song.”

For this category, eighty-one songs were eligible, and fifteen of those were chosen for the shortlists. The Music Branch members will vote to select the nominees.

On the night of the Oscars, the winner will be chosen from among the nominees. On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, nominations for all 23 competitive categories will be made public. On Sunday, March 12, 2023, the 95th Academy Awards will conclude. Ten of the 23 categories have shortlists that have been released by the Academy.

One came to RRR via Shortlist. Later on, RRR will have a chance in the remaining categories. Chhello Show (The Last Film Show), India’s official Oscar entry, is also on the shortlist for the international feature films category. We applaud SS Rajamouli, MM Keeravani, and the RRR team for taking this crucial first step in their illustrious path.

One of the blockbuster films of 2022

The principal actors in the SS Rajamouli-directed movie were Jr. NTR and Ram Charan. The all-Indian picture is already widely acclaimed, and its creators have launched a drive to nominate it for an Oscar in 2023.

A fascinating anecdote regarding the SS Rajamouli-directed film RRR appeared online amid all the excitement surrounding it. In reality, the video for the song Naatu Naatu by RRR was filmed in front of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s official mansion. In 2021, the track was filmed.

Filmed at Ukraine Presidential Palace

For those who don’t know, the Mariinskyi Palace served as the location for the RRR song’s filming (Ukraine Presidential Palace). The Telugu song’s lyrics were written by Chandrabose, while MM Keeravani provided the music. Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava sang Naatu Naatu.

Earlier, SS Rajamouli acknowledged this development in an interview with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The RRR director allegedly stated, according to Gulte.com “The Naatu Naatu song was filmed in Ukraine. It is an actual place. Actually, it is the presidential palace of Ukraine.

The parliament is located just next to the palace. Fortunately, they allowed us to shoot because the president of Ukraine was a television actor. The amusing part is that before taking office, he played the President in a TV show.”

Tough contest from Hollywood buggies

Hollywood heavyweights like Taylor Swift (Carolina), Lady Gaga (Hold my Hand), and Rihanna provide strong competition for SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which earned a berth on the Best Original Song shortlist (Lift me up).

Given the widespread popularity of Naatu Naatu, particularly in the West, voters are likely to include the song in the final list in the category of “Best original song.”

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released its shortlists for the 10 Oscar categories that will be presented in 2023. These categories include documentary and international features, as well as a documentary short subject, makeup, and hairstyling, an original score, an original song, an animated short, a live-action short, sound effects, and visual effects.

Voting for the nominations will take place from January 12–17, and the nominations will be made public on January 24. The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood is where the 95th Academy Awards are scheduled to be presented on March 12.

Why was RRR snubbed for VFX and sound?

RRR was included on the shortlist for the Best Original Song Oscar in 2023. Fans were dismayed that the movie was passed over for the original score and visual effects awards, though.

The 2023 Oscars will take place on March 12th. The visual effects and original score categories, as well as RRR, were passed over.

However, RRR’s song “Naatu Naatu” made the shortlist for the category of the best original song. By earning a spot on the Academy Awards shortlist for the original song for Naatu Naatu, SS Rajamouli’s RRR has moved one step closer to the final list of Oscar nominees.

However, it fell short in two other crucial technical areas, namely visual effects, sound, and the unique score. Fans have flocked to Twitter to voice their displeasure at the slight.

Fan’s Reaction: RRR Sneaked out of Two Categories

One person said The RRR omission is sad.

while another added, “RRR needed more than a song mention for BP.” Even Variety acknowledged that RRR’s failure to make the shortlist in the original score, visual effects, and sound categories is unfortunate.

“Everything, Everywhere, All at Once” and “RRR” showed some of the most creative effects of the year, thus their exclusion breaks the heart,” the report stated.

Scott Kernan,

To be fair, EEAAO having three mentions is hardly a bad thing, and the two it missed are understandable. RRR can probably still get a director, and it still has one more month to build up enthusiasm. The question is, is this the year PGA/AMPAS match 10/10?

Jibril Gagalae,

Of all the things for EEAAO to miss, VFX isn’t the end of the world (lower-budget film, not as many effects shots as the average movie, etc).
