Netaji statue in Delhi: PM Modi's message to the world during the inauguration of Netaji's statue

Netaji statue in Delhi: The unveiling of Netaji’s statue is more than a show of national pride; it’s also a statement to the rest of the world, as India rises up to pay tribute to a revolutionary who fought on the losing side in World War II.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil a digital monument of liberation fighter and former Indian National Army (INA) leader Subhas Chandra Bose today at the India Gate canopy, which originally held the statue of King George V, the country’s imperial icon against whom Netaji battled his entire life. Amit Shah, India’s home minister, and G Kishan Reddy, India’s cultural minister, will also be present as India commemorates Netaji’s 125th birthday.

While both the PM and the HM are expected to speak at the event, the erection of a granite statue of Netaji under the canopy honors the INA commander as one of India’s outstanding independence warriors.

The INA was the force that suffered the most loss of life (26,000 out of a total of 90,000) yet never surrendered to the British. Its officers and soldiers were apprehended and tried, but they never signed any surrender papers in front of the British. (Netaji statue in Delhi)
