What happened at the scene?
Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, the spokesperson for the Mangochi Police, stated that on this fateful day, Andrew Sawabu was operating an unregistered 7-ton lorry out of Mangochi Boma and headed for Maldeco.
He overshot the mark and lost control of the car when he got to Mogas Lodge. He drifted to the wrong side of the road and ran into Police officer Juma, who was walking in the same direction.
Officer Dead
Juma died while receiving care at Mangochi District Hospital after the driver abandoned him there after he suffered severe brain injuries as a result of the collision.
The next day, the suspect Andrew Sawabu sold the car and left the area.
Sawabu got arrested
On the evening of November 6, 2022, the night patrol team detained Andrew Sawabu at Soko Trading Centre as a result of a tip from locals who saw him enjoying himself.
Sawabu stabs a Police Officer
By pulling out a knife in an attempt to avoid being taken into custody, Andrew Sawabu stabbed one of the officers in the upper left eye, causing a cut wound. The officer was taken in need of immediate medical attention to Mangochi District Hospital.
Charges against Andrew Sawabu
According to reports, Andrew Sawabu has been accused of illegally injuring someone, killing someone while driving recklessly, failing to report an accident within 24 hours, and operating an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
After the paperwork is finished, he will be appeared in court.
