Michael Hill store in Takapuna closed: What happened? Explained

The Jewelery store Michael Hill has announced it will close its Takapuna store on Auckland’s North shore after multiple robbery. Let’s see what occurred exactly in detail

What happened in Michael Hill store?

Given the recent attacks on our Takapuna store, it will remain closed while we review our broader security options,” Michael Hill CEO Daniel Bracken said.

On May 15, the company announced to the New Zealand Stock Exchange that it would close stores across its global network in response to the changing retail environment caused by the coronavirus crisis.

The Takapuna shop has been hit three times this year. Less than a week after the jewelry retailer unveiled upgraded security measures across all of its shops, the decision was made. The Takapuna store was the most targeted of their outlets in the nation, according to a statement from chief executive Daniel Bracken.

Bracken announced that it will remain closed as they looked at its additional security solutions. He stated the closure was necessary for the immediate safety of the business’s clients and staff. The Takapuna location of the jewelry business as well as its locations in Pukekohe, Westgate, Glenfield Mall, Newmarket, and Queen Street in the heart of the city have all had raids in recent months.

CEO of Michael Hill Statement

CEO of Michael Hill Daniel Bracken issued a statement in which he said: “Given the recent attacks on our Takapuna store, it will remain closed while we assess our more extensive protection measures.

Since it is the most frequently targeted location in our New Zealand portfolio, it will remain closed for the immediate safety of our clients and staff. As usual, safety comes first. The remaining network of 49 Michael Hill stores across New Zealand are open and trading, with no further New Zealand store closures currently planned. The same store was the scene of a blatant daytime heist in June where perpetrators shattered countertops and put jewelry into bags before driving off in a car.

“Every effort has been made to redeploy impacted staff from those stores across the Michael Hill store network. For our customers, we make this transition easy to ensure we do not impact their shopping experience with Michael Hill and provide our customers with the solution to either shop at another suitably located store or via our online store.”

In its announcement to the stock exchange, Michael Hill Jeweler says it’s planning to close five stores in Australia and one in Canada, as well as the three in New Zealand. The retailer claims to have reviewed the profitability of its stores, consumer demographics, and store network.

“We are determined to open the right stores at the right time with the right inventory,” it said in May”.

“Accordingly, we have been negotiating with all our landlords to reach reasonable commercial arrangements that reflect the reality of the consumer marketplace and trading conditions.”

As of June 8, Michael Hill Jeweler had received $2.2 million in wage subsidies for 326 staff.

Prior to the closures, Michael Hill Jeweler had 304 stores in New Zealand, Australia and Canada with global sales of A$569 million (NZ$593m) last year.

Johnsonville view about this incident

Stores have either relocated to the newly renovated Bay fair or to the Tauranga Crossing mall, which has emerged as the city’s new commercial hub.

Both malls have a really strong hospitality offering and are really family friendly,” she says.

Once you start getting that repeat visitation, they become your new local. Tauranga, for example, has shifted quite significantly over the last couple of years. If you go down the main street of Tauranga, it is a ghost town at the moment”. Stores have either moved to the Tauranga Crossing mall, which has become the city’s new epicentre or into the newly refurbished Bay fair. The stores will have nighttime security measures, personal staff alarms, more security cameras, alarm screamers, security officers stationed at each store, and more.

She claimed that Johnsonville had struggled for a very long time, whilst Upper Hutt had suffered because of its proximity to Queens gate mall. It’s unacceptable that our employees and clients now routinely face this degree of devastation and live under this continual danger of attack, Michael Hill chairman Rob Fyfe said to News hub last week.

Both malls have a really strong hospitality offering and are really family friendly,” she said. Once you start getting that repeat visitation, they become your new local.”

Upper Hutt suffered for its proximity to Queens gate mall, while Johnsonville had struggled for a long time, she said. Michael Hill Jeweler has been approached for comment. Medicotopics team is trying to gather more information about this news, once we get will update in our site.
