Chicago Police suicide death rates:

According to data and municipal authorities, Chicago police leaders have had a difficult time managing the more than a dozen officer suicides that have occurred since 2018.

According to a 2017 study by the U.S. Justice Department, the suicide rate among Chicago police officers was 60% higher than the national average for law enforcement personnel.

Rising crime, personnel shortages, increasing overtime, low morale, and stress have all been cited as exacerbating factors in police fatalities by those who support law enforcement. The police discovered at least 1,000 policemen had worked 11 or more straight days throughout the spring last summer.

The Sun-Times was informed by police authorities early this year that they intended to boost the number of trained counsellors accessible to cops.

The department had 17 employees as of February intending to provide at least one counsellor for each of the 22 police districts in the city. The agency has roughly 11,600 sworn policemen.

The department’s wellness program for officers was criticized in a report from the city’s Inspector General’s Office last year, which found that it mainly depended on supervisors and other officers to identify police who needed mental health treatment without assuring proper training.
