Who was Walter Beneteau?
Walter Bénéteau was a French professional cyclist who was born on July 28, 1972. From 2000 to 2006, he participated in each Tour de France race. He earned all three intermediate sprint points on this stage, pushing him up to position 23 in the points standings.
Before seeing some breakthrough success at the turn of the century, Beneteau made his professional debut in 1995 as a member of the Castorama squad. Achieving a career-best performance of 42nd in 2001, the Frenchman demonstrated exceptional consistency on the Tour by finishing every year he competed. In his last Grand Tour, he placed 83rd overall. When his contract with Bouygues Télécom expired, Bénéteau declared he would retire; by November 2006. After finishing his career in 2007, the native of Les Essarts pursued a career in “public relations” through the TotalEnergies and B&B Hotels teams.
