Momo Zhou passed away on January 25, 2023. Paul Nicholson, a darts analyst, described Momo Zhou’s death as “utterly unbelievable.”
The 31-year-old female Chinese player, who had previously won a BDO event, passed away unexpectedly.
On Thursday, her sponsor, Target Darts, tweeted about the news.
“We are sad to announce the passing of Momo Zhou (31), a loved member of the #TeamTarget family based in China,” they posted.
“We would like to thank you all for her support over the years, and our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.”

Who was Momo Zhou?
Momo Zhou also known as Weng Weng was the second female player to ever compete in the PDC World Cup of Dart.
She was born on July 19, 1991. Zhou was a professional darts player and a 1-time tournament winner.
In June 2018, Zhou created sports history by competing for China in a televised PDC event at the World Cup of Darts.
Zhou, together with Xiaochen Zong, became the second female player to compete in the World Cup of Darts, following Anastasia Dobromyslova, who represented Russia in the 2010 tournament.
On her big stage debut, the Chinese trailblazer grabbed the hearts of the darting world by cheekily celebrating a missed dart from their Swiss opponents during their first-round clash at the Eissporthalle.
More recently, she made news when, despite suffering a bounce-out during the leg, she produced a “perfect” ten-darter in last year’s China Series A-League to defeat Jianjun Jia.

PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter expressed his condolences to Momo’s friends and family during this difficult time.
“Momo was a popular figure on the circuit and made promising progress in her career, creating a legacy by becoming the first woman to represent China on the big stage.”
Lorraine Winstanley shared this sad news by saying, “Such sad news. My thoughts are with your loved ones RIP.”
