A single-vehicle accident claimed the life of Eastern Greene High School athlete Jedd Cummings early on Sunday morning.
The incident reportedly occurred somewhere near South State Road 45, which is about a half-mile south of Interstate 69, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
On the football squad of Eastern Greene High School, Cummings is a junior. Cummings reportedly left the east side of the lane before colliding.
He was declared dead at the scene of the collision. The Eastern Greene central office can be reached at 812-825-5722 if any students need assistance at this trying time, according to the school’s official statement.

Cummings garnered 49.9% of the vote (20,166) to nip Bloomington South defensive end Devonte Brown, who came in at 46.6% (18,838). The third was Bloomington North quarterback Cayden Riester (3.5%).
Cummings, a sophomore, took a kickoff return 87 yards for a score and caught a 50-yard touchdown pass as the first half ended as Eastern won its first game of the year, 28-27, over North White.
