Michael “Micky” Hourihan, the chairman of football team sadly passed away. Hourihan’s demise news was confirmed by his team, Leeds AFC.

Leeds AFC shared a heartfelt tribute to its chairman, and the message reads,

“It is with great sadness that Leeds AFC are today in mourning for the loss of our chairman Michael “Micky” Hourihan. 

“Micky was the backbone of our club since the very beginning and has supported the club in so many ways both on and off the pitch.”

“Our club would be nothing without Micky and we give our heartfelt condolences to Norma, Fiona, Declan, Ronan, Kieran, all the grandchildren and his extended family at this very sad time.”

“Above all else Micky was a great husband and father and a wonderful human being who always thought of others and lit up any room that he was in. There are very few like Micky and he was a legend in Leeds but also across the Cork football.”

Many don’t know, but on more than one occasion Micky put everything on the line to ensure our club was able to survive. Even in sickness Micky was still at almost all games supporting our club.

Although we are currently consumed with sadness we will continue to fulfil Micky’s ambition of ensuring Leeds Park is a place for everyone within the local community! RIP – Mr Leeds.”

Micky passed away peacefully after a battle with cancer. Michael “Micky” Hourihan cause of death was cancer.

Micky has been the foundation of the AFC club. He was survived by Norma, Fiona, Declan, Ronan, Kieran, all the grandchildren, and his extended family.

With over 400 members, Leeds AFC Cork is a football team located in Ballyvolane on the outside of Cork City, Ireland.

Micky was a gentleman through and through. A kind word to say about everyone and always laughing and joking and enjoying singing and playing his accordion. He knew everyone’s name and always made time to talk no matter how busy he was. Leeds AFC has lost a legend, everyone that knew him has lost a friend and Cork City has lost a true character. Rest in peace Mick.
