Art Laboe passed away at the age of 97 from pneumonia. According to his family members, Art Laboe died of Pneumonia Complications.

His last show was produced last week and broadcast on Sunday after he passed away.

Laboe is remembered his role in helping put an end to segregation in Southern California.

He organized live DJ shows at drive-in eateries in the area, where people of all races would dance to rock-n-roll.

 

Who is Art Laboe?

Laboe was born -Art Egnoian on August 7, 1925, in Salt Lake City, Laboe served in the Navy during World War II and first appeared on the L.A. airwaves in 1955 when rock ‘n’ roll was gaining popularity. He was died on October 7 of pneumonia at his home in Palm Springs.

Laboe’s Hollywood-based Original Sound label also made original recordings. Two of its earliest releases, the percussion-driven instrumentals “Teen Beat” by Sandy Nelson and “Bongo Rock” by Preston Epps, were national pop hits in 1959.

Laboe was an on-air jock and a consultant on 1972.Laboe moved back to KRLA in 1975. When he is as doing a show while serving as program director, sales consultant and in other capacities. By 1979, he was its senior VP.Art went on to become a record producer, and concert promoter and even owned some radio stations. And, when you talk about marathon careers … Art’s final syndicated radio show was produced last week, and aired Sunday night.

Laboe remained an L.A. institution, and his final show was produced during the week and broadcast October 9.He worked at KFI for a couple of years before beginning a third stint at KRLA in 1985 that would last nearly a decade. He has a star on “Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland”,maintains a permanent Laboe display.

In1994, his popular Sunday Night Killer Oldies Show went into successful national syndication. Laboe remained an L.A. institution, and his final show was produced during the week and broadcast October 9.

Tributes to Art Laboe

Art Laboe,according  to Joanna Morones, a representative for Laboe’s production firm, Dart Entertainment, Laboe passed away on Friday night at his home in Palm Springs, California, from pneumonia.

Anthony Valadez, who co-hosts KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic,”twetted a photo  Laboe, noting that “no one could ever do shout-outs like this O.G.”

KDAY bid farewell to Laboe, calling him “our longtime family member.”

“Thank you for all the many years and amazing times you spent with us here at 93.5 KDAY!,” the Station tweeted.Iknow that you are smiling from Heaven because this City, the World and everyone that tunes into the @artlaboeconnection LOVES YOU!!! and I will make sure to do my part to continue your Legacy,” Mastin added.

Laboe’s fans miss his voice.
