The band announced his death on Twitter Sunday afternoon with a graphic that included his birth and death dates, as well as a “Bon Jovi forever” logo above his name.
“We are disappointed to know of the death of our great friend Alec John Such,” Bon Jovi said on Twitter.
“He was a one-of-a-kind.” Alec was a founding member of Bon Jovi and was instrumental in the band’s creation. To be honest, we met through him — he was Tico [Torres’] childhood buddy who brought Richie [Sambora] to see us play. Alec was always wild and full of life. These precious memories bring a smile to my face and a tear to my eye today. We’ll miss him terribly.”

Former bandmates of the rock superstar paid tribute to John Such, who left the band in 1994, and Alec John Suchon on Twitter. Variety was the first to announce his death. There were no immediate details on when or how he died.

Alec John Such Music Career
From 1983 through 1994, John Such was the rock band’s bassist. He played bass on the band’s first five albums, including Bon Jovi in 1983, 7800° Fahrenheit in 1985, Slippery When Wet in 1986, New Jersey in 1988, and Keep the Faith in 1992.
He had contributed to the band’s signature singles, including Livin’ on a Prayer, Wanted Dead or Alive, You Give Love a Bad Name, Bad Medicine, I’ll Be There for You, and Bed of Roses.
Bon Jovi attributed the band’s formation to John Such, stating that he was a childhood buddy of drummer Tico Torres and brought guitarist and songwriter Richie Sambora to see the band perform.
The Yonkers, New York native John Such was a long-time fixture in the thriving New Jersey music scene that gave birth to Bon Jovi. Before joining Jon Bon Jovi & The Wild Ones’ band, John Such worked as the manager of the Hunka Bunka Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey.
He was a member of Bon Jovi during their peak in the 1980s. John Such had also been a member of the Message alongside Sambora.
Hugh McDonald took over as bassist when John Such left the band in 1994.
He later returned to the band for its 2018 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
‘When Jon Bon Jovi phoned me and asked me to join his band many years ago, I quickly saw how serious he was, and he had a vision that he wanted to get us there,’ John Such said during the Hall of Fame ceremony. ‘And I’m overjoyed to have been a part of that vision.’
