Ethan Boyes death: USA cycling champion dies in a fatal accident, cause of death explained

According to a family representative and the U.S. Park Police, elite cyclist Ethan Boyes, a 2018 world title holder for the fastest “flying start,” passed away on Tuesday after being hit by a car while riding in San Francisco’s Presidio. Let’s see How did Ethan Boyes die and Ethan Boyes cause of death in detail.

How did Ethan Boyes die?

Unexpectedly, Ethan Boyes, a former teammate at the Cycling World Championship, passed away.

Ethan Boyes, who had earlier set a new record for the year’s quickest “flying start,” passed away on Tuesday after being struck by a car while riding in the Presidio in San Francisco.

Ethan’s former teammate Karl Baumgart wrote a tribute on Facebook,

“The world is often cruel and unkind and today we were delivered yet another powerful, in your face reminder with the loss of my friend and former World Championship teammate Ethan Boyes. He was literally one of the nicest people I’ve ever met – not only in the small circle of track cycling… but anywhere! As someone just said to me, he had a smile on his face 24/7. And it’s true. He also just so happened to be one of the fastest sprinters in the World having won 3x worlds jerseys last year alone in LA, and remains the World and National record holder in numerous sprint events like the Kilo and flying 200m. I wanted to share this photo from 2016 in Manchester at Worlds where Ethan stepped out of his comfort zone and was a pursuit teammate with me, Dean Phillips, and Jeromy Cottell. As you can see we had some laughs… I never got to tell Ethan I looked up to him so much for his amazing accomplishments – mostly because he downplayed them so much that it would have been super awkward to try and tell him.

He and I both found track cycling later in life and he is one of those guys who accomplished so much in such little time it was awe inspiring.

RIP 🪦 Ethan… you will be gravely missed 💔

The family will announce Ethan Boyes’ obituary and funeral arrangements at a later time.

Ethan Boyes cause of death

Ethan Boyes was regarded as having a friendly personality. Many people must be curious to know the Ethan Boyes cause of death in light of the recent news.

Officers were summoned to Arguello Boulevard, which is south of Washington Boulevard, at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday to look into a complaint of an accident involving an automobile and a bike, according to a statement made by the United States Park Police on Thursday.

The statement said,

“The cyclist, an adult male, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced deceased,”

“The driver of the vehicle was also transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  The crash remains under investigation by the United States Park Police.”

The cyclist Ethan Boyes suffered fatal injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he eventually died unexpectedly. Paramedics also took the car’s driver to the hospital for injuries that weren’t thought to be life-threatening.

The collision is currently under investigation. They failed to say if drink or drugs were involved in the event or whether the driver was detained.

Ethan Boyes cause of death has left the community inconsolable.

Dangerous Intersection:

Before Tuesday’s deadly collision, transportation advocates had been calling for protected bike lanes on Arguello.

Luke Bornheimer, a proponent of environmentally friendly transportation, said that the petition has his full support and that Arguello needs protected bike lanes immediately. “Arguello is a critical route for anyone who uses sustainable transportation, such as bikes.”

Bornheimer claimed that because Arguello connects the Presidio to the car-free Kennedy boardwalk in Golden Gate Park, cyclists in the Richmond commonly utilise it to get to other parts of the city.

“This death, while tragic, I think highlights the need for protected bike lanes. We know that the way to prevent people from being killed is to build protected bike lanes to separate bikes from car traffic, which will encourage more people to get on bikes.”

One cyclist was killed while riding in San Francisco in 2022, compared to four in both 2015 and 2016.

At Aguascalientes, Mexico, on September 24, 2018, Boyes established the time trial record. In a “flying start” time trial, the competitor does not start from a standing position but rather accelerates immediately after crossing the starting line.

Who was Ethan Boyes?

Boyes, a San Francisco native, is recognised by USA Cycling as the current holder of the 500-meter “track time trial – flying start” national record. On September 24, 2018, in Aguascalientes, Mexico, a new record was set. Boyes is a dedicated rider who took home the 2018 and 2019 Masters Track National Championships for USA Cycling. The death has left the cycling community in a state of bewilderment.

The fact that he was also one of the world’s fastest sprinters was only a pleasant coincidence. He just won three world championship trophies last year in Los Angeles, and he continues to hold the world and U.S. records in a number of different sprinting events, including the kilo and the flying 200m. Also, he has a number of various sprinting national records.

Tributes to Ethan Boyes

Many people expressed their profound sympathies to his family and expressed how much they loved him. The news of this occurrence has upset his supporters and fans.

John Ellison wrote: “The world lost a truly good soul Ethan J Boyes this week who touched my entire family & many many others. A man who gave with no strings, who had a sense of humor like few others, a role model & inspiration to elite track cyclists who was a national & international champion & both a great friend & in many ways like a big brother to my youngest. I met him the night before his 1st time to ride VSC in ’14(southbay wheelmen time trial) on a friday night when my kid was training. The picture below is after Elite Nat’s in ’17 when I forced him to go take a lap at Encino Velodrome to add one to his list. He didn’t wanna go, he was tired from competing & his ride back to San Fran was coming early so I had to pull rank & say “you’re crashing on my couch, go gotta do what I say…it’s my house” …….afterwards he thanked me. That was him, gracious in all his interactions. When Jordan raced out of state in CO & MN as well as her many times in SF. He always took care & looked after her. I could always reassure Lily “don’t worry, Ethan will be there” to ease her worries. Rest in Peace my friend”

John Croom wrote: “Racing against you was an honor buddy. Ethan J Boyes you’ll be missed.”

  1. As a member of the Organisational Team of the UCI World Masters Trach Championships in Manchester UK, I’d like to express our shock and sadness on hearing of Ethan’s passing. His forever engaging smile whenever he wasn’t actually competing typified the event and Ethan as a person. Today we as a community wherever we reside in the world has a reason to be sad
