In late June 2022, three persons were shot, including him. Since making headlines when he was shot, where it was initially claimed that he acted in self-defense, the lifelong businessman has been keeping a low profile.

The following was tweeted by WSBTV reporter Michael Seiden. Chaka Zulu, a longtime manager of Ludacris, was recently detained on suspicion of murder. The music executive, whose real name is Ahmed Obafemi, is also accused of simple violence, aggravated assault, and having a firearm while committing a crime according to the reports.

What happened to Ludacris manager?

On Sunday night (June 12), while he and his daughter were leaving a Bankhead restaurant, the co-CEO of Luda’s Disturbing Tha Peace Records was shot. In the parking lot, Chaka Zulu is seen on surveillance video walking with his daughter and a friend before being approached by another man, according to TMZ.

Sources who saw the video said that Chaka and the man start speaking. The contact becomes visibly more intense as the conversation quickly becomes more heated. Throughout the altercation, the second man is said to have maintained his hand close to his waistband.

According to the outlet, a woman intervenes and pushes the other man away from Chaka Zula, but he doesn’t submit. As the man approaches, Chaka appears to bump him before grabbing him by the collar.

When the second group of three or four males gets involved, the situation worsens. They purportedly rush Chaka, knock him to the ground, and then trample him with their feet.

Then at least two shots are fired after one of the males pulls a gun. According to sources, Chaka Zulu stood up and returned fire with at least one shot.

Based on the initial reports, the unidentified shooter fired at least nine shots during the event, striking three people.  The men were taken to the hospital, where one of them later passed away from his wounds. As per the reports, Chaka Zulu, he was shot at least once, with the bullet striking him just inches from his heart, according to TMZ. He is currently in serious condition, they add.

When was Obafemi detained?

Obafemi surrendered to authorities on Sept. 13 and bonded out the same day.

Obafemi’s attorney Gabe Banks who released the following statement:

“Mr. Chaka Zulu, a beloved son of the City of Atlanta, is disappointed in the Atlanta Police Department’s decision to bring charges against him surrounding the shooting that occurred in June 2022.  A close review of all of the evidence, including the surveillance footage and eyewitness interviews, reveals that Mr. Zulu was attacked and jumped from behind by a gang of at least four (4) individuals (sadly including the decedent) and was forced to defend himself after this gang repeatedly stomped, punched, and kicked him while he was on the ground in a defenseless posture. Mr. Zulu was shot in the back during the shooting and nearly lost his life, and is still recovering from the nearly fatal injuries he sustained that evening.  Mr. Zulu was at his place of business that night and had every right to defend himself.  In an attempt to save his life, Mr. Zulu lawfully discharged his weapon in self-defense, a weapon that he is licensed to carry. Mr. Zulu fully cooperated with law enforcement officials and their investigation, and voluntarily turned himself in once he learned of the arrest warrants. Mr. Zulu remains confident that his named will be cleared of all charges through the judicial process. It is not lost on Mr. Zulu that someone lost his life, but had Mr. Zulu not lawfully defended himself, Mr. Zulu would have been killed that night.”

Back in January, the Atlanta Hawks honored Zulu for his community service, praising him for being a positive leader in metro Atlanta.
