A Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office cop was killed over the weekend in a fatal accident, and an arrest has been made in the case. Let’s see who is Anthony Savoie and what happened in detail.
Suspect arrested in Nicholas Pepper’s case:
Anthony H. Savoie, 33, of Bourg has been named as the suspect in the murder of Det. Sgt. Nicholas Pepper of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Savoie has been in custody at a nearby hospital getting treatment for the wounds he received when he slammed his Chevrolet Tahoe into the marked vehicles of Sgt Peppers and another officer.
Savoie was kept in custody by Louisiana State Police while being helped by the Thibodaux Police Department up until being released early today.
After being detained and taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, he was taken to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex for lodging after being booked.
Savoie was eventually arrested for the following offenses: First Degree Murder of a Police Officer First-degree Murder Attempt, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Warrant for Failure to Appear (32nd Judicial District Court), Aggravated Flight from an Officer – Warrant for Failure to Appear (32nd Judicial District Court).
Lafourche Parish Deputy’s death:
The criminal case will be handled by the district attorney’s office for Terrebonne Parish. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office asked investigators from the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations to look into the fatal accident that involved a Lafourche Parish deputy on April 2, 2023.
Just before 5:00 a.m., a collision happened on Thibodaux’s Louisiana Highway 1 close to Klienpeter Road. According to the preliminary investigation, a Houma Police Department officer tried to stop a car for a traffic violation. The individual left the scene quickly.
The suspect was being chased by police when he eventually came to a halt. Officers made an effort to reason with the suspect before he raced off and collided with a nearby stopped Lafourche Parish deputy’s vehicle.
The accident left a police officer with fatal injuries, and a nearby hospital declared him deceased.
Police investigation continues..
The suspect was apprehended and was taken with moderate injuries to a nearby hospital. The suspect was taken into custody using Sgt. Nicholas Pepper’s handcuffs, according to a statement from Louisiana State Police Troop C.
Bail is set at $5.6 million. The criminal case will be handled by the district attorney’s office for Terrebonne Parish.
