Director of PAW Patrol, Ted Bastien, passes away after battling cancer

Ted Bastien, a longtime PAW Patrol director, passed away. Let’s see how did the director die and his cause of death in detail.

How did Ted Bastien die?

Charles E. Ted Bastien, a well-known Canadian director of PAW Patrol Season 3, has died. Guru Studio, a Toronto-based entertainment company, announced the death news of Ted on their public Facebook page.

Guru Studio released the following statement on Ted’s passing,

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Ted Bastien, director of PAW Patrol for over 7 years, has passed away,” wrote Guru Studio.

“Ted was a dear colleague and friend to many of us at Guru. Throughout his illness, Ted fought bravely to be a strong creative leader for his team and to always keep everyone’s spirits high.

“Ted started with Guru back in July 2015 after a remarkable 31 years at Nelvana. During his time at Guru, he led our 100+ PAW team through many creative adventures across several series and specials. 

“Ted will always be remembered for his sharp wit, charm, and bright sense of humor. His passion was infectious and his standards were unwavering. Ted was an invaluable contributor to PAW Patrol’s international success and to kids’ entertainment in Canada and around the world.

“Our hearts go out to his entire family and to everyone who had the pleasure of working alongside him. He will be greatly missed.”

Who was Ted Bastien?

Ted began working on PAW Patrol during its third season. After Jamie Whitney, Ted became the second director of PAW Patrol.

He enrolled at Sheridan College between 1980 and 1983 and worked there to complete a Certificate in Classical Animation.

Along with PAW Patrol, Ted contributed to the art sections of several other television shows, including Wayside, Extreme Ghostbusters, Little Rosey, The Suite Life of Hudson and James, Cyberchase, Quads!, Braceface, Seven Little Monsters.

Clone High, Bigfoot Presents: Meteor and the Mighty Monster Trucks, Johnny Test, and Magic Adventures of Mumfie, as well as the films Journey to the Center of the Earth and An Angel for Christmas.

Ted created Larry the Bug, Maurice the Maggot, and the Diner, as well as all of the live-action images for Freaky Stories. 

Additionally, he contributed to The Magic School Bus, Little Bear, Elliot Moose, Handy Manny, and Mike the Knight, among other programs.

Ted Bastien sadly died after a battle with cancer on March 2023. Ted was known for his roles in Mike the Knight and Handy Manny. (pictured, as a figurine). From the third season episode “Pups Save Apollo,” he started directing. 

Tributes flooded online after the demise news of Ted broke out. He was remembered by his friends and co- workers as a hilarious and friendly man.

Ted Bastien had a profound impact on the childhoods of countless kids all over the globe. He has made a significant contribution to the world of children’s entertainment.

Ted was the mastermind behind some of the most adored characters and tales in the industry thanks to his artistic abilities and limitless imagination.
