What happened to Jennifer Angel?

After a robbery attempt, Uptown, Oakland bakery owner Jennifer Angel passed away at 5:48 p.m. Thursday after doctors confirmed that she had lost all brain function.

According to a post made online by her family and friends, the proprietor of a beloved Oakland bakery who was seriously hurt in a robbery on Monday passed away Thursday afternoon.

Owner of Angel Cakes Jennifer Angel, 48, was dragged more than 50 feet by the automobile of robbers who cornered and robbed her in the parking lot of a Wells Fargo in Oakland. She was put on life support three days later.

Ocean Mottley, Angel’s fiancé, revealed on Thursday that doctors were about to remove Angel’s life support so they could check her ability to breathe on their own.

Just before six o’clock, post stated that Angel had “medically been declared to have lost all brain function and would not regain consciousness.”

“Friends and family of and public servants who fought to preserve her life,” it continued.

Her past as an activist against “putting public resources into policing, incarceration, or other state violence that perpetuates the cycles of violence that resulted in this tragedy.” was stated by Angel’s family and friends.

How did Jennifer Angel die?

Jennifer Angel’s death was announced by her friends and family online by sharing a statement. The statement reads,

“It’s with very heavy hearts that we announce that Oakland baker, small business owner, social justice activist, and community member Jen Angel has been medically declared to have lost all brain function and will not regain consciousness. Her official time of death was 5:48 pm (PT).”

“Friends and family of Jen hope that the story of this last chapter of her brilliant, full, dynamic life is one focused on her commitment to the community, on the care bestowed upon her and her family by the people who loved her, and on the generous and courageous role of countless health care workers and public servants who fought to preserve her life.

We know Jen would not want to continue the cycle of harm by bringing state-sanctioned violence to those involved in her death or to other members of Oakland’s rich community.”

“Per Jen’s wishes, her organs will be donated, and her committed medical team has informed the family that those organs will serve to lengthen and improve the lives of up to 70 people.
If the Oakland Police Department does make an arrest in this case, the family is committed to pursuing all available alternatives to traditional prosecution, such as restorative justice. Jen’s family and close friends ask that the media respect this request and carry forward the story of her life with a celebration and clarity about the world she aimed to build.”, the statement added.

Robbery incident:

The Bay Area’s culinary and political communities, where Angel has long roots, have been rocked by the ferocity of the theft, which took place in broad daylight on a popular street.

The robbery occurred on Angel’s day off from her demanding job as the proprietor of T.J.’s Gingerbread House, a small-batch cupcake bakery and catering company that recently debuted in one of Oakland’s old Victorian structures.

Through GoFundMe, more than $90,000 had been collected by Thursday afternoon to help her family.

Angel was an outstanding punk rock journalist and political writer before she started working as a baker.

Police investigation:

Oakland police indicates that the attempted robbery of Angel is still under investigation as of the time of publication and that no suspect information or arrests have been made.

Investigators believe the culprits are accountable for a number of such robberies and vehicle break-ins throughout the city, the Merc reports.
