How did Oran Gethins die?

A Sligo car accident has claimed the life of a promising young boxer.

Oran Gethins, a man in his 20s from The Woodlands, Ballytivnan, Sligo, and formerly from Rock Valley, Dromahair, County Leitrim, was killed in the early-morning collision on Saturday near his house. He was Zach’s sibling and the adored son of Andrew and Maeve.

Oran Gethin’s sister posted a picture of Oran and expressed how much she miss him,

Sean McDermott Boxing Club, Manorhamilton, offered a heartfelt tribute on social media:

“We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic passing of club member Oran Gethins Oran started with us when he was 7 years old and was a pleasure to train always willing to learn and was a very respectful young lad inside and outside the ring, he won an Irish title for the club in 2016 his father sandy is also a coach of our junior class ,our heartfelt condolences go out to his Dad Sandy Mum Maeve and younger brother Zac ,and also to the extended Gethins and Gallagher family at this heartbreaking time, Rest in peace champ 🥊💔🙏

Oran Gethins Car crash:

Early on Saturday morning, a single-car incident took place at Rathbraughan, a small community west of Sligo. The early 20s-year-old collision victim passed away at the spot and was then brought to the mortuary at Sligo Hospital.

A Gardaí spokesperson said:

“Gardaí at Sligo are investigating a single car fatal road traffic collision which occurred in the early this morning on a local road at Rathbraughan, on the outskirts of Sligo town.

“A male aged in his early 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The deceased has since been removed to the mortuary at Sligo Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be carried out. The local Coroner has been notified.

“The scene and car have been examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has since reopened to traffic.

“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. They are also appealing to road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) from the scene at Rathbraughan, Sligo to make it available to them.”

Following the deadly collision involving a single automobile, Gardaí are asking for witnesses. The deceased was taken to Sligo University Hospital’s mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be performed.

On Saturday morning, a Gardaí was at the scene of the deadly accident in Sligo.

Gardaí Forensic Collision Investigators investigated the area and the automobile, and the road has subsequently been reopened to traffic. Gardaí are pleading with any witnesses to contact them if they saw this collision.

Additionally, they are pleading with motorists who have dash-cam or other video footage of the incident in Rathbraughan, Sligo, to make it accessible to them. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Gardaí Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, the Sligo Gardaí Station at (719) 9157000, or any Garda Station.

Gateway Boxing Club wrote :”The Gateway Boxing Club Sligo would like to extend our deepest clondolences on the sad and untimely passing of Oran Gethins to his dad Sandy, mother Meave, his brother Zac and his uncle Glen who works closely with us from the Ballinacarrow boxing club. We also wish to extend our condolences to Frank, Sheila, Bernice and all the Gethins family, also to Tommy, Mary, Rory, Cathal and the Gallagher family. May Oran rest in eternal peace. Oran was a long term member of the Sean mc Dermot boxing club, where he was an Irish champion in 2016. Our condolences also to the Sean mc Dermot boxing club.”

Dromahir Gaa wrote :”It was with great shock and sadness that we learnt of the tragic passing of Oran Gethins earlier today. Oran was a multi-talented sportsman, a fantastic Gaelic & soccer player and a title winning boxer. As a community we are heartbroken for his mother Maebh, his brother Zach, his father Sandy and the extended Gethins and Gallagher families and as a club we wish to extend our heartfelt condolences and support at this difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam 🙏

Authorities are currently looking into Oran’s death circumstances, which are yet unclear. The news has obviously crushed Oran’s family and friends, and the community has been horrified by the tragic loss.
