What happened to Brian Kasibante?
A freelance journalist from Rakai named Brian Kasibante poisoned himself and passed away. According to reports, Kasibante reportedly ingested poison on Tuesday and wrote a note explaining his intentions to die and how he wants to be buried.
The victim, who is presently being treated at Rakai General Hospital, is said to have taken roughly 30ml of paraquat, which has completely disrupted his bodily system, according to a medical staff member who asked to remain anonymous.
A poisonous substance known as paraquat is frequently applied as a herbicide (plant killer), mainly to eradicate weeds and grass.
Why did Brian Kasibante commit suicide?
The circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide of a journalist working for Kooki Broadcasting Services (KBS) are being looked into by police in Rakai District.
Before ingesting paraquat, a poisonous substance that is frequently used as a herbicide (plant killer), Brian Kasibante, 26, is alleged to have written a suicide letter on Tuesday alerting his friends and family about his decision. Paraquat is generally used to manage weeds and grass.
At Masaka Regional Referral Hospital, where he had been transported on Tuesday night for treatment, he passed away on Wednesday morning.
Reason for suicide
One of Kasibante’s coworkers, Mr. Nicholas Kakeeto, claimed that Kasibante frequently argued with his two wives, which he feels may have contributed to his decision to commit suicide.
“He has been relating to us tales of his quarrels with his wives, but we thought this was a straightforward issue and we truly disregarded it. We were so horrified to find that he had decided to swallow paraquat, a herbicide, to end his life, he said in a telephone interview on Tuesday.
He sent multiple messages before penning a note telling authorities not to look into the incident or make any arrests since he had chosen to commit himself, Mr. Kakeeto continued.
I’ve been talking to him every day, but I was unaware that he was struggling. The news anchor at the same station, Ms. Betty Nabichu, stated, “I last read a write-up on his WhatsApp status discussing how he was going to commit suicide. I tried phoning him, but his phones were off, which frightened us the most.
According to a hospital employee who asked to remain anonymous, Kasibante ingested roughly 30ml of paraquat, which caused his entire body system to become disorganized.

A Ministry of Health assessment of 4,660 persons in 14 regions of Uganda found that 16% had attempted suicide in the year before the 2016 poll, and 15% had succeeded in doing so.
The actual figure, though, is reportedly far higher. “The societal views regarding suicide contribute to the problems of gathering data,” the poll indicated.
According to a recent estimate by the Uganda Counselling Association (UCA) and the Ministry of Health, there are 14 million mentally sick Ugandans, or 35 out of every 100 people in the country.
Suicide is frowned upon in most communities in Uganda. Typically, a person who hangs themselves is not given a respectable funeral.
