According to the TBI, deputies from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home on Lake View Drive in Celina on Saturday, December 10, where they discovered Julie Vernnan Harding, 49, dead.
Harding joined the department in 1999, according to the California Highway Patrol. She was the commander of the Yuba-Sutter Area Office, but she was on leave when she died.
The Tennessee Bureau of Inquiry, which is leading the investigation into Harding’s death, said her body was sent to a medical examiner in Nashville. Her death does not seem to have been the result of criminal activity. The agency, however, refused to disclose if she committed suicide.
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday evening that Harding was detained on December 9, the day before she was discovered dead, and released from custody in Clay County’s southern neighbor, Rutherford County, Tennessee. She was taken into custody on a single criminal trespassing allegation.

According to the woman, Harding entered her property and removed a dog that she had shared custody of with her ex-husband Michael Harding while they were divorcing.
On September 2022, Michael Harding went missing, and the woman claimed to authorities she had gained control of the dog at that time. The same woman accused Harding of stalking and harassment on October 13.
Police investigation:
According to a Murfreesboro police spokesperson, on December 9, Rutherford County deputies served Harding with an arrest warrant and took Hardy into custody. Just east of Nashville, Tennessee, lies the counties of Clay and Rutherford.
Julie Harding’s husband, Michael Harding, vanished in September 2022. Michael Harding, who lived and worked in Clay County, Tennessee, went missing, according to Sheriff Boone, who also told CBS Sacramento that he was discovered dead in a foreclosed home there about a week later. He was unknown to have any relation to that home.
The Kentucky State Police are looking into Michael Harding’s death as a possible homicide. According to Boone, a suspect in his murder was detained in California.
The suspect was named Thomas Francis O’Donnell by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, which claimed to have assisted in the arrest, which took place on December 8 at Sacramento International Airport on Dec. 8. O’Donnell is still being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail, according to the sheriff’s office, and is awaiting extradition to Kentucky. He is detained without posting bail.
CBS Sacramento is attempting to confirm additional information regarding the arrest and any potential connections between O’Donnell and the Hardings. According to a reliable source, Julie Harding was a key player in a murder-for-hire scheme that included Michael Harding.
