Temple University police officer Chris Fitzgerald, 31, was tragically injured on Saturday night while attending to an incident close to campus. After being apprehended by the U.S. Marshals and Bucks County police for the murder of Temple University Police Officer Christopher Fitzgerald, Miles Pfeffer of Buckingham Township, Pennsylvania, was brought to Philadelphia, according to the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.

The incident happened in North Philadelphia close to Montgomery Avenue and 18th Street, and it initially started as the police officer attempting to stop a carjacking, according to the report. The police officer, later identified as Chris Fitzgerald, was shot during the intervention and eventually passed away at Temple University Hospital.

After engaging the police physically and engaging in a foot pursuit, the suspect was captured on security footage firing a revolver at the officer. According to the affidavit, after Fitzgerald was wounded, the suspect reportedly stood over him and fired several further rounds into his head and face.

The suspect attempted to steal the officer’s gun and a vehicle after the incident. The suspect was overheard allegedly stating, “Give me the keys, or I’ll murder you,” immediately before he stole a vehicle and left the area. According to the complaint, his mother later picked him up around 29th Street and Ridge Avenue before driving him home to Bucks County. A number of guns were also seized from Pfeffer’s mother’s residence. The mother was also taken into custody for questioning even though she was at home when she was arrested.

Pfeffer’s brother was with him when the police attempted to stop the carjacking, according to the local station, but law enforcement officials informed the reporter he hid in an alley throughout the incident. Pfeffer is accused of numerous crimes, including the murder of a police officer, robbery, and carjacking, according to officials. He cannot be released on bond.
