Csean Skerritt, 34, who police say killed a 13-year-old last week, has been taken into custody. Let’s see, who is Csean Skerritt in detail.

Who is Csean Skerritt?

Csean Skerritt, 34, was detained on Sunday as a result of a recent FBI undercover drug operation. He is now facing federal fentanyl-dealing charges.

He is allegedly a suspected gang member, according to court documents. Authorities have not revealed a motive for the homicide or whether or how that inquiry may have affected it.

At a press conference on Monday, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden revealed that Csean Skerritt, 34, had been detained on Sunday.

He was held on a separate fentanyl distribution charge, and his office had also obtained an arrest warrant accusing Skerritt of first-degree murder and charges involving a firearm in connection with Tyler’s death.

He is being held on the drug charge pending a court appearance on February 14 and will likely soon be charged on the murder and gun allegations.

What happened to the teenager?

Tyler Lawrence, a 13-year-old teen, was a sixth-grade student at Coakley Middle School in Norwood. He was killed in Mattapan, last week by Csean.

Tyler Lawrence, of Norwood, was shot multiple times outside his grandparents’ house in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood on Jan. 29 in what authorities described as a “targeted” attack. He passed away at the scene from his wounds.

Police officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a call for a shot spotter activation in the vicinity of Fremont Street and Babson Street at 11:32 AM on Sunday, January 29, 2023.

Officers also responded to a complaint about a person who had been shot in the vicinity of 119 Babson Street in Mattapan at the same time.

Officers arrived and discovered Tyler Lawrence, 13, of Norwood with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. On-site medical personnel declared the victim dead.

Hayden praised the family of Tyler Lawrence for their “amazing bravery and strength” at this difficult time.

“I met with his mother last week and attended his memorial service yesterday. I can personally attest to the enormous love and admiration for Tyler from everyone he knew and touched.”

Skerritt promised to sell 50 grams of fentanyl for $1,500 on Feb. 1, four days after Tyler’s shooting, according to court filings.

On Sunday, his mom says Tyler was taking a walk in his grandparent’s neighborhood in Mattapan when he was shot. He later died on scene.

“I love my son. I miss my son,” his mom says. “Everybody in this city should be outraged.” His mom says he loved music, basketball, his mother, and his grandparents.

Anyone with information is strongly urged to contact Boston Police Homicide Detectives at (617) 343-4470.

Skerritt’s criminal history:

A sentence of at least 5 years and up to 40 years in jail is required for just that charge. Hayden said that Skerritt was well-known to the police and had a criminal history.

According to the then-District Attorney Rachael Rollins, Skerritt was charged in 2015 with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Julien Printemps on January 26, 2014, at a convenience shop in Dorchester.

In November 2017, a jury found Skerritt not guilty, according to Hayden’s statement on Monday.
