Ed Sheeran revealed his wife’s health condition while announcing a new album. Ed married Cherry Seaborn, his childhood friend and has two children: Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran and Jupiter Seaborn Sheeran, who were born in 2020 and 2022, respectively.
Ed’s wife suffered an ‘inoperable’ tumor during her pregnancy. The singer and his childhood sweetheart kept the pregnancy a secret, but he has now revealed that the couple suffered from ‘fear, depression, and anxiety’ because Cherry was diagnosed with a tumor that couldn’t be treated until after she gave birth.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the 31-year-old singer explained that he struggled with his mental health last year while dealing with his wife’s health issues and mourning the loss of his best friend Jamal Edwards.
Jamal Edwards, a music producer and the son of Brenda Edwards, tragically passed away in February 2022 from a cardiac arrest brought on by cocaine use and alcohol consumption.

In the post, Ed announced the release of his sixth studio album, Subtract, explaining that it was inspired by personal tragedies he had faced.
‘I had worked on Subtract for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be,’ he wrote.
‘Then, at the start of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and, ultimately, the way I viewed music and art.
‘Writing songs is my therapy. It helps me make sense of my feelings. I wrote without thought of what the songs would be, I just wrote whatever tumbled out.
And in just over a week I replaced a decade’s worth of work with my deepest darkest thoughts.
‘Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumor, with no route to treatment until after the birth.’
‘My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly, and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter.
‘I was spiraling through fear, depression, and anxiety. I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air.’
‘As an artist, I didn’t feel like I could credibly put a body of work into the world that didn’t accurately represent where I am and how I need to express myself at this point in my life.’

The singer and his wife Seaborn, whom he married in 2019, have two children. They announced the birth of their second child in May 2022. Couple also had a two year old daughter.
Sheeran has not yet shared any details on Seaborn’s current condition, but said that the forthcoming album explores some of his “deepest, darkest thoughts”.
“It’s opening the trapdoor into my soul. For the first time I’m not trying to craft an album people will like, I’m merely putting something out that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life. This is last February’s diary entry and my way of making sense of it,” he said. “This is Subtract.”

Ed revealed earlier this month that he’s had some ‘turbulent things’ happen in his personal life as he returned to social media after a long break.
The singer admitted that he hasn’t been as ‘engaged’ with his fans on social media as he would have liked, with many of his recent posts simply promoting his music and tour dates.
‘The reason I’m making this video, just being totally honest, is I’ve had some turbulent things happening in my personal life so I just didn’t really feel like being online and pretending to be something I’m not when I wasn’t really feeling like that.’
Ed then added: ‘I know that sounds weird, but hence I’m making this video to say things are looking up and I’m back online.
‘So you know, weird s**t is gonna start being posted here. I’ve made this video about 50 f*****g times I’m not making another one!’
Ed Sheeran announced to his followers in November that he was taking a break from social media after finishing work on a new music video. Ed is in the midst of a world tour and is currently performing in Australia and New Zealand.

Ed Sheeran previously stated that having Lyra Antarctica was a “blessing” and a “miracle” after struggling to conceive with Cherry.
The singer revealed that the couple had scheduled doctor’s appointments after ‘trying to have a kid for a while’.
The couple then welcomed their first child after naturally conceiving during a 2019 vacation to Antarctica, which inspired the unusual name.
The BRIT Award winner joked in October that he and Cherry were “in the trenches” caring for their children.
He revealed more on Good Morning America, saying, ‘They’ve been on tour with me. My second daughter was born while we were on tour, but my first daughter attends the shows and is well aware of what is going on.
‘I think she assumes everyone else’s dad sings as well, though,’ Ed joked. ‘It’s every cliché that people say about parenting. You love both kids the same but also completely different. I’m really enjoying being a father of two,’ he continued.
