Tragic death: What happened to Loma Bittick? A high school teacher from Greenleaf killed in a car accident

According to Idaho State Police, a 65-year-old woman from Caldwell died Thursday evening after being thrown from a pickup near Greenleaf. What happened to Loma Bittick?

Greenleaf Friends Academy is mourning the loss of a beloved coach who died in a car accident just before her team’s district championship game on Thursday.

According to a statement posted on the school’s Facebook page, Coach Loma Bittick, who was in charge of the school’s girls’ basketball and volleyball teams, was killed in the crash.

“The GFA Community has been saddened by the passing of the high school math teacher and girls volleyball/basketball coach, Loma Bittick. Loma was in a serious automobile accident last evening along with her husband, Jim. Jim is in the hospital in stable condition at this time. “

Jim Bittick, who co-coaches the basketball team with her, was also involved in the crash and is currently in stable condition at the hospital.

Greenleaf Friends Academy was closed on Friday. and Friday night’s boys basketball game against Rimrock has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. In a Facebook post, school officials also stated that the Greenleaf girls basketball team would be unable to play its 1A Division I district championship game against Liberty Charter on Thursday night. Liberty and Greenleaf are district champions. The Greenleaf girls qualified for the Idaho 1A DI State Tournament for the first time since 2009 last weekend, beating Rimrock 37-22 in the district semifinals.

 

Tragic Death:

According to an Idaho State Police news release, which Freeman confirmed was about the crash that killed Loma Bittick, the crash happened around 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Friends Road and Lower Pleasant Ridge Road, a block south of the school.

According to police, a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta driven westbound on Lower Pleasant Ridge Road by an unidentified 27-year-old male from Meridian failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with a 2014 Ford F150 pickup driven north on Friends Road by Jim Bittick, who was carrying Loma as a passenger. Both Bitticks were ejected from the vehicle, and Loma died after being taken to the hospital. The driver of the Volkswagen was also taken to the hospital, though the extent of his injuries is unknown.

According to police, none of those involved in the crash were wearing seat belts. ISP is still investigating.

 

Who was Loma Bittick?

Loma Bittick was also a math teacher and the volleyball coach at the school since 2015. She started teaching three years ago and has been assisting her husband with the basketball team for two years.

For the first time since 2011, Greenleaf’s girl’s basketball team qualified for the 1A Division I State Tournament last weekend, defeating Rimrock 37-22 in the district semifinals.

The school expressed gratitude to the students, faculty, staff, and the larger Greenleaf Friends Academy community for their outpouring of support and prayers. They emphasized that during difficult times, the Greenleaf community comes together, supports one another, and honors their Lord Jesus Christ through fellowship.
